"I think that's about it, thanks for helping us!" Dad thanked the truck driver who helped us move our furniture all the way from Busan and even helped us place stuff.
They had a short conversation but I didn't care to listen, all I did was stand like an idiot, on our front yard, seeing all the boxes laid on the ground.
My mom was inside our house preparing dinner because night is soon gonna fall. Dad had always been the friendlier and more approachable one in between my parents, my mom just can't handle social interactions with her intimidating aura. I guess that's why people tell me I got my attitude from my mom and my terrible eyesight from dad.
I heard a door burst open, I stood still and peered over the fences to see an excited person sprinting out their gate.
And then I just realized that Joohyun never moved out of her house next door.
"MR. LEEEEEEEE~ IT'S SO NICE TO FINALLY SEE YOU!" Joohyun squealed like a fangirl meeting her idol. Dad gave her a series of flustered replies despite both of them being outgoing and lively.
When Joohyun's eyes landed on me, I felt like panicking because she looked like a crazed woman running toward me.
I opened my arms with a smirk and welcomed Joohyun with warmth. Although being 6 years older than me, Our age didn't stop us from being close friends since we were little.
Honestly, As I'm hugging Joohyun right now– I thought about how she is like an older sister to me, she gave me wise advice that somewhat helped me when I was a kid... unlike my biological sister.
"Gosh, Jiyoung... You have no idea how much I missed you!" She said and pouted, looking emotional. I jokingly smacked her on the shoulder, chuckling at her shaky face.
"Missed you too, Joohyun..." I replied.
"Where's Jiyoon? Is she off somewhere else again? Because that girl never stays in her place."
"Oh, she's back in Seoul for college, she's graduating next year so I'm sure you'll get to see more of her once she's out of school."
"Really? Well too bad because I SMELL RICE CAKE! WHAT'S THE ULTIMATE GENIUS MRS. LEE COOKING!?" Joohyun proceeded to walk into our house with her loud voice, I grinned and already laughed at mom's reaction seeing her.
"Joohyun? Oh my God! You didn't move out!" Mom gasped right after placing the rice cake on the table.
Joohyun feasted in the first few bites of rice cake and praised mom like she would always do. She's grown a close connection to our family and she's practically apart of us at this point.
They chatted a bit but my parents were mostly interested in Joohyun's lifestyle as a woman living alone with a stable job. It amazes me how independent she lives at such a young age.
Joohyun doesn't realize it but I look up to her so much as a child and even until now.
After helping mom out with the dishes, I walked with Joohyun back to her house next door. We laughed in unison as we chattered about small, random stuff.
"So have you seen Beomgyu yet?" Joohyun brought up a blood-curdling topic. I got goosebumps from head to toe just by hearing his name... the bad kind of good bumps.
"Uh, no..."
"You don't follow each other on social media?!" She yelped as if not following him on social media is a crime. Heck, I don't even know his SNS accounts.
"I haven't seen him in a bit, since you know, I moved away... I've only seen old pictures of him when he was still a kid because my dad kept a shitload of our photos."
