Engagement

    Sid with his family reached Sana's residence. They were welcomed with all love and respect. They sat in the living room. Sana was not to be seen. Sid was very much hurt with her words in the morning. He was here only because of his baby. Sid realised that shehbaaz was a very jolly young man. Her parents and grandparents very simple people. Maa was very impressed with them.
Maa: Bhaisaab, bhen jee. Hum apni Siddharth ke leye aapke shehnaaz ka hath maangne aaye hai. Aapki bacchi bahot pyaari hai hame dil se bahot pasand hai. Baake jo unke beech hua ya unke sath hue uska hum kuch nhi kar sakte. Aur hame uss baare me kuch bolna bhi nhi chahiye. Vo dono do samjadar log hai, jinhone yeh faisla kiya hai. Ab humko sab kuch thek karna hai.
Sana's Dad: Jee aap bilkul sahi keh rahi ho behen jee. Hume bahot khushi hai ke aap hamare ghar yeh rishta lekar aayi. Hamare beti bahot khush kismat hai ke aap logo ka itna pyaar mila hai usse.
Maa: Darasal hum chahte hai ke yeh shaadi bilkul simple tareeke se aur sirf hum logo ke maujudgi me ho.
    Sid has very clearly told mom about this. He wanted the wedding to be as simple as it can be
Sana's Dad: Jee behenjee jaisi aap kaho.
    Sana's dad turned and looked at Sid with folded hands and tears in his eyes.
Sana's dad: Thank you beta jee.
    Sid immediately too his both hands in his and shook his head.
Sid:  Aree Uncle please aise mat kijeye. Mai aapke bete jaisa hu. Please muje sharminda mat kijeyee.
Sid's jiju: Uncle hum chahte the ke hum kal he shaadi rakh le. Ab jab sab kuch decided hai to rukne ke kya zarurat. Aur hum sab ghar wale he to hai. Fir koi formality ke kya zarurat hai.
Sid's dad: Kal he?? Itne jaldi??
Maa: Ha bhaisaab agar jaldi se jaldi ho jaaye to he accha hai na. Sana ke haalat bhi aisi hai. Fir humme wapas Mumbai bhi jaana hai.
Sid's dad: Thek hai jaise aap log chaaho.
Maa: Sana kaha hai. Dekhayi nhi de rahi hai??
Sana's mom: Mai bula kar laati hu.
    Sana was sitting in her room. She knew all were down discussing. Discussing and deciding the future. The future in which she had no say.  If not for her baby, she would never let it happen. But she very much regret one thing. Lying to Maa. She had given her so much love and Sana has betrayed her. How will she face her?? How was she going to look in her eyes. She was dreading to meet her. Sana's mom came to call her. Sighing she got up from the bed and followed her mom. She has worn the dress her mom has brought for her. Her mother has insisted on her wearing some jewellery out of those, which her mom has been collecting for her. She looked beautiful. She entered the room. Her heart was beating faster. Maa got up and came forward as soon as she entered. She took her by her hand and made Sana sit in between her and Sid. Sid had not looked at her. But when she sat their arms brushed, he felt Sana shiver and Sid shifted a bit away in his seat. Sana turned to Maa and looked at her.
Maa: Kaisi ho beta??
    Sana hugged Maa and Maa hugged her back. Tears rolled down her eyes. She will regret betraying Maa all her life. Maa moved behind and took her facing in her hands and kissed her forehead.
Maa: Sab thek ho jaayega. Thek hai?? Sab thek ho jaayega.
    Sid was sitting with his head bowed down listening to their talks. So much was going on in his mind and head. Was he doing it right?? Forcing her to marry him when she hates him so much. He was being selfish here. He wants his baby to have both his mom and dad with him when it is born. Maa produced a ring and gave it to Siddharth
Maa: Siddharth yeh Sana ko pehnaao.
    Sid was surprised, because he didn't knew Maa has brought a ring for Sana. He looked at Maa and Maa smiled. Sana's mom also produced a ring for Siddharth. They  both were to exchange rings. They must have planned this when Maa had spoken to Sana's parents in the morning. Sid and Sana took the rings in their hands.
Maa: Sana apna hath aage baadao.
   She did as she was told to do and Sid took her hand in his and slipped the ring in her finger. A shiver ran through her again. She had dreamt of this day since she had started loving him. But never thought it would be in  such a situation. She too slipped the ring on his finger. He could feel her tremble. Was it so terrifying for her. Being associated with him?? He remembered the hatred he has seen on her face and got his answer. Sid and Sana sat quitely as everyone around them chatted. Sana's dad immediately called their family pandit and the time for marriage  rituals was decided for 3.15 pm the next day. The Gill family insisted that Sid's family have dinner with them before they leave for the hotel. They agreed has Sana's grandparents were not ready to take no for an answer. Maa told Sana to go and rest as it was very tiresome for her to sit longer at this period of time. Sana's back has already gone stiff as she was sitting rigid all the time. Sana lay on the bed in her room looking at ring on her finger. Tears rolled down her eyes. He has slipped that ring on her finger Does it mean anything to him?? No it doesn't. He has done it just for the baby. He was trying to do everything right for the baby.  But It was just a formality for both. Shehbaaz came to call her as the dinner was ready.
    Sana entered the dinning hall and her mother came towards her.
Sana's mom: Gudiya, Siddharth ko bula la. Vo shaayad garden me hai.
Sana: Par mummy shehbaaz ko....
Sana's:  Chalo jaao beta. Jaldi karo, shabaash, jaao.
    She didn't wanted to go but couldn't refuse as all were watching her. She walked towards the garden area. And found him looking at the painting on the entrance. He has a small smile on his face. The painting was of a small boy getting wet in the rain. The happiness on that boy's face has made Sid smile. He saw Sana appear from inside and his smile disappeared. Just like in her dream.  He turned away from her and stood with his back to her.
Sana: Vo andar dinner ke leye bula rahe hai.
Sid: Tum chalo mai aataa hu.
Sana: Mai akeli vaha jaau to accha nhi lagega.
Sid: Accha nhi lagega to na lage. I don't  care.
    Sana felt the baby kick too hard. And she held her stomach.
Sana: Aaouch..
    Sid came rushing towards her. Held her by her shoulder and made her sit on the chair beside. He kneeled  on the floor in front of her and started searching her face. All the anger and ego disappearing. Was she in pain?? What was happening. He got scared.
Sid: Kya hua tuje?? Baby thek hai na??
Sana: Kuch nhi.  Kuch nhi. Sab thek hai. Baby ne zoor se kick kiya.
Sid: Kick??....
     Sid didn't understand what she was saying at first. But then realization kicked in. Sid's face showed hundred of emotions. He didn't knew how to react. He felt tears forming at the back of his eyes.
Sid: Baby kick bhi karta hai?? Vo ander...
Sana: Haa. Dekhna hai tuje??
    Sid nodded. Sana took his hand and rested  it on her belly excitingly. The baby kicked hard. Sid felt it so strongly that tears started flowing from his eyes. He removed his hand as if he may hurt the baby. He then very slowly kept it back again and it kicked back more forcefully this time. He felt so happy from inside. His baby just kicked.
Sid: O God... I can't believe this?? My baby.... My baby...
    Sid was not able to control his emotions. Seeing this Sana also had tears in her eyes. He got up and started pacing the floor with joy. It was like as if a small boy has been handed his favourite candy. The smile and excitement on his face was phenomenal. Then suddenly that smile disappeared. He looked at her angrily.
Sid: Yeh sab khushi se tune muje dur rakha na?? Agar mai kabhi tuje nhi dhundta.....
    Shehbaaz entered the veranda and Sid turned his face.
Shehbaaz: Siddharth chalo sab dinner ke leye wait kar rahe hai. Chal Shehnaaz.
    Sid turned around and walked inside not waiting for them. The dinner was too good. The only people who were not enjoying it were Sid and Sana lost in their own miseries.
