my brain kept replaying the images of draco as a little seven year old boy, just grateful for any attention that his father was giving him. how was he supposed to understand what any of it meant? i hated lucius, i'd disliked him before from everything i had read about him in the papers but i knew now that i hated him. how could anyone force their seventeen year old son to carry that kind of burden, especially not when they had brainwashed them in to agreeing to it when they were only seven. the other boys would have been playing with toy cards, or watching cartoons, but draco was sat at home learning how to be a good follower for the dark lord. my stomach churned, and i forced myself to roll out of draco's bed knowing i was going to be sick. i just made it to the bathroom, locking the door behind me and managing to vomit nearly down the toilet.         'y/n?' draco called from the outside of the bathroom door 'are you okay?'. i flushed the toilet and washed my hands, opening the door to reveal him standing there. his eyes were bloodshot and it was obvious he'd slept even less then me. 'yeah i'm fine' i replied 'just a stomach bug'. i didn't want to let on to him that the real reason i was vomiting was because i was so scared after what he'd told me yesterday. 'morning sickness' he joked, turning away from me to grab a sweater off his draw. i knew he was joking but i still panicked inside, it was like he had said out loud what i'd not dared to think. i had been sick quite a lot in the mornings recently. 'here' he said, chucking a jumper at me 'you're shivering'.
'thanks' i smiled gratefully, slipping it on and inhaling deeply. 'why are you sniffing my jumper you absolute weirdo' he laughed and i smiled back at him happily 'it smells like you' i replied, walking back over to the bed and tucking my bare legs under the covers. considering it was july now, it was still definitely not warm enough for short pyjamas.

'at least we don't have classes today' remarked draco, grabbing his cooler bottle of water off the table at the end of his room. he passed it to me, climbing in to bed next to me. 'drink' he ordered and i took a sip, surprised at how cold it was on my teeth. 'how is it this cold even after being in that bottle since yesterday' i gasped, passing it back to him. he laughed 'muggle invention' he told me 'keeps the cold in for up to twenty four hours'. i smiled back at him, jumping when i heard a knock at the door. 'go in the bathroom' draco mouthed at me and i stood up, rushing over to the bathroom and quietly closing the door behind me.

'ah, mr malfoy' umbridge said cooly 'miss l/n you might as well come out too, i know you're in here. i heard your voice'. i walked out from the bathroom sheepishly. 'i just came to get the potions book back that i leant him-' i started and she dismissed me with a wave, clearly not interested in my excuses. she scanned over us both witheringly, draco standing there in nothing but his tracksuit bottoms and me standing there in dracos oversized jumper, looking like i was wearing no pants. it wasn't looking the best for us. 'i do have pants on' i said quickly and umbridge raised her eyebrows. 'i didn't ask' she replied witheringly. i looked over at draco, he was standing with one hand behind his back, clearly trying his best to hide the dark mark without being too obvious. 'can you both change in to something more appropriate and come and meet me in my office' she smiled, turning to walk out of the room. 'oh and mr malfoy? don't be too long. your father is also waiting in my office'. she walked out of the room, closing the door curtly behind her.

'fuck' draco whispered, sinking down on the bed. i opened his draw, pulling out some different clothes and handing them to him. 'there's no point panicking now' i reasoned 'let's just get dressed and go see what they want'.
'y/n you don't understand, my father is here' he said. 'he clearly knows about us. you're in so much danger now and it's all my fault'.
'stop it' i said, quickly changing back in to the clothes i'd left lying on the floor from yesterday, 'it isn't your fault and you know it'.
'it is' draco protested 'i should have made you stay away from me'.
'draco' i smiled at him, taking his hand 'nobody can make me do anything i don't want to, you know that. just get dressed and we can face whatever happens when we actually know what is happening'. i nudged him, willing him to snap into action. he looked up at me, his face looking scarily distorted with panic. 'y/n listen to me' he pleaded 'you need to run, you need to get as far away from here as possible. i'll cover for you, i'll buy you time but you need to go now'.
'draco stop it' i scolded 'i'm not going anywhere without you and you know it, so just get dressed and stop acting like a baby'.

he looked at me again, 'y/n you don't understand'.
'i do understand' i told him 'i understand enough to know that if voldemort is anywhere near as powerful as everyone makes out, i won't last two minutes running from him. besides we don't even know this has anything to do with voldemort yet'.
'it is to do with voldemort' draco replied glumly.
