'i can't believe you could be so irresponsible' lucius screamed, his voice so angry that it shook. he was about an inch away from my face and shouting so loudly that i felt one of my ear drums might pop at any minute. he'd managed to remain a fake composure until the dark lord had left, when he promptly turned around and pulled a painting off the wall onto the floor like a toddler having a tantrum. 'i think it was quite brave' narcissa mooned, twirling a strand of hair around her finger. she looked positively deranged and it was clear lucius thought the exact same. 'brave?' he asked 'brave? you do realised she's just endangered us all'.
'what was she even doing in there in the first place' shot draco, he'd been so uncharacteristically quiet throughout this whole argument that i'd almost forgot he was there. he set his eyes on his mother, glaring at her from across the room. 'you promised me you'd keep her out of it'. if looks could kill, draco would definitely be serving a life sentence for murdering narcissa right now. i grabbed his hand, trying my best to reassure him. 'you need to get your head out of whatever planet it's currently living on and get real draco' hissed lucius 'what was your mother supposed to say to the dark lord when he requested y/n specifically? no?' draco flinched like lucius had hit him, and i felt him grip my hand tighter than before. 'it would have all been fine' lucius continued 'if y/n had just gone in and acted like any normal person. if she'd just coasted through and gave the most polite answers possible she would have been forgotten about in a week. but she got smart, and now it'll be on her head when we all get killed'. he prodded me in the chest, knocking me back slightly. 'don't touch her' draco warned quietly and lucius scoffed in response. 'lucius calm down' narcissa said pleadingly from behind him. 'calm down?' he shouted disbelievingly.
'did you not hear what the dark lord said about y/n?' she asked desperately 'he said that she could be the next leader. think about what this could mean for us'. she put her hands on either side of his face and he frowned. 'he said what?'.

lucius looked at me thoughtfully. 'no way, absolutely no way' i spat, letting go of draco's hand and taking a step towards him. 'what?' lucius said threatening, taking a step towards me as well. 'you are not pimping me out in to some kind of mini death eater minion just so you can try and get in the dark lord's pants'. draco put a hand on my shoulder, attempting to pull me back. 'y/n' he said warningly.
'what did you just say to me?' lucius gasped.
'you heard me'
'what makes you think you have any say in this?'
'fuck off'

he slapped me then, i don't really think he knew what else to do. i was expecting it, but the sheer force of it still somehow caught me off guard and sent me flying off my feet and into a dining chair where i crumpled in a heap like a paper doll. not my most graceful of landings. i looked up just to see draco fling himself at lucius furiously. lucius was a lot bigger and stronger than draco, but draco was fuelled by absolute anger that i'd never seen him show before. the anger he'd had over some comment harry made, or losing a quidditch match seemed like nothing in comparison to this. i jumped back up to my feet, grabbing draco and starting to pull him away from lucius. draco was winning right now, but i think that was because lucius was too stunned to fight back. the minute he snapped in to action properly i knew draco would get snapped like a twig. 'i told you not to fucking touch her' he shouted, thrashing out as i pulled him away. narcissa buried her face in her hands, about as much help as a chocolate teapot. it was clear that she chose to look away from any situation she didn't like, she was like an ostrich, she just buried her head in the sand and hoped it went away. 'draco lets just go' i pleaded, willing him to snap out of whatever had taken over me. he looked down at me, and when we made eye contact he visibly grounded himself. 'okay' he replied quietly, taking my hand and dragging me out of the manor.

'and don't think your coming back later' lucius called, following us to the door of the manor. i turned around, sticking my middle finger up at him as we walked. he slammed the door shut, and i heard him cry out in rage followed by another smash. we walked down the manors driveway in silence, turning off at the end to go out of the side gate rather than the main one incase he came after us. phinneas was sat on the wall, swinging his legs and obviously waiting for us. 'you're okay!' he exclaimed, running over to me and throwing himself at my neck. i laughed, catching him as best as i could. 'you befriended one of the house elves?' draco asked weakly and i smiled at him as sincerely as i could, 'of course'.
'i knew when i heard lucius hit you that master draco would make you leave' phinneas told me 'so i grabbed your bag. i remembered that you both needed shoes too'. he smiled proudly and i took the bag off him gratefully, passing draco the shoes phinneas had grabbed for him. my shoes didn't match my outfit, and draco had two odd shoes but neither of us mentioned it to phinneas, not wanting to hurt his pride. 'you should get back to the manor' i said to him 'lucius will be even more mad if he finds out your here'.
'master has many elfs' phinneas replied 'he won't notice that i am gone'. he paused for a minute, sighing 'but one of the other elves might tell on me to master if they notice i am gone'.
'are they really mean to you?' i noticed his tone of voice had changed when he talked about the other elves, and my heart ached at the thought of anyone being mean to him. some of the house elves were even mean to me and draco, and they were technically meant to serve us. i couldn't imagine how awful they'd be to phinneas. 'sometimes' he replied cheerfully, jumping down off the wall and landing with a thump in the grass, 'but i don't mind because i have you as my new best friend' he told me. he paused again, looking over at draco. 'is master draco my friend too?' he whispered, looking to me to reassure him. 'yes, he is' i replied firmly. phinneas smiled at us both, turning and running haphazardly across the grass back towards the manor.
