i pressed my head against the window, feeling the cool of the glass spread across my forehead. dracos hand was resting on my leg, drumming a tune with his fingers nervously. lucius was sat on the chair opposite us in the carriage, watching us intently. nobody had said a word since we boarded the train. 'so y/n' lucius said, breaking the silence finally, 'what do you want to be when you grow up?'.
'dad' draco warned and lucius blinked his eyes in mock innocence. 'what?' he asked 'i'm showing a polite interest'.
draco scoffed, 'well don't'. i smiled at him gratefully and he squeezed my thigh in response. 'can we go sit in a different carriage?' draco asked pointedly.
'no' lucius replied, raising his eyebrow 'you think i'm stupid draco, i know first chance you get you would try and sneak off the train'.
'fat chance' draco replied glumly, sinking further down his chair like a child in a sulk, 'there's no way to get off the train alive anyway'. draco started kicking the chair opposite annoyingly, making lucius' seat shake. 'hmm hmm hm hm hmmmm hmm' draco starting humming now, as out of tune as i'd ever heard him. 'fine' lucius snapped 'but i want you in the carriage opposite where i can keep an eye on you'. draco grinned, standing up and walking us in to the carriage opposite.

he closed the door behind us with a bang, flopping down on the chair next to me. 'mission annoy lucius into letting us leave was a success i'd say' he laughed and i allowed myself to giggle quietly. he wrapped his arm around me, serious for a second. 'i am sorry for this you know' he whispered 'all of this'.
'don't be' i replied lightly 'like you said to me a couple of months ago, this was very much a two person job' i elbowed him teasingly to try and lighten the mood. he prodded me gently in the ribs with his index finger, making me squeal and fall back laughing. the reality of what was happening hit me again. i had no idea what had happened to my parents, i had no idea what was going to happen to me when i got to the manor, i didn't even know if i would see draco again once i got off the train. i cut off mid laughter, sitting up suddenly. 'did your dad tell you what he did to my parents?' i asked quietly, watching lucius waringly through the window. i felt a rush of guilt, at the fact i'd been laughing along with draco when my parents were most likely dead somewhere. 'he hasn't killed them' draco said, rubbing my shoulder, 'he blackmailed them'.
'blackmailed them?' i asked 'with what?'
draco shrugged silently, staring in to the other carriage where his dad was reading the paper. as much as the thought of my parents being blackmailed upset me, i was at least glad that they weren't dead. at least that was one less worry, they were probably safer than i was right now.

now i had to worry about what was happening with me, and draco. my heart ached with the thought that i could have put him in danger. draco had warned me what might happen but i took no notice, sure i could take care of myself. i was so stupid that i never even really noticed that maybe it wasn't just me my reckless choices were going to affect. i cursed myself for that night in the common room too, i could have caught whoever had been taking those pictures if i'd just walked down the corridor faster, but i'd hung back purely because i didn't want to talk to one of my dorm mates. 'what are you thinking about?' draco mumbled in to my hair, i smiled up at him shrugging. 'i won't let anything happen to you if that's what you're worrying about' he took my hand reassuringly, letting me play with the rings on his fingers like i used to when i fidgeted. 'it's not me i'm worried about' i replied 'what if i've put you in danger?'
'you're a weird girl' he said lightly, his throat sounding clenched like he was trying to stop himself from crying, 'all this has happened and your still worrying about me'.
'i'll always worry about you' i replied softly 'i always have and i always will'. he smiled down at me lightly, pecking my cheek. 'i'll get us out of this' he promised 'even if i have to kill them myself'. i wasn't sure if he was referring to the dark lord or lucius, and i didn't ask.
