i shook draco awake around half six the next morning, 'draco' i hissed 'you're going to be late for your prefect duties'. he groaned, covering his head with a pillow crossly. 'i'm not a prefect anymore' he groaned. i stopped looking at him 'what do you mean you're not a prefect anymore?' i demanded bossily. 'she dropped me from them weeks ago when i took the fall for you' he replied 'now will you please fuck off and let me sleep'. i bit my lip, trying to pretend like that comment didn't sting. i knew he was just upset that i'd reminded him he'd been dropped from the prefects. i looked down at him, catching sight of some scratches on his arm. 'what's that?' i asked, reaching out to grab his arm. 'oh for fucks sake' he spat, snatching his arm out of reach and tucking it under the pillow, 'it's nothing. now will you just leave me alone, i'm not in the mood for 21 questions this morning'.
'fine' i whispered, feeling my eyes fill up. i hated how grumpy he was being this morning, but i wasn't going to let him have the satisfaction of seeing me cry.

i headed back to my dorm and got dressed. i had to at least look somewhat decent today if i was meant to try and find a yule ball date. i swiped some makeup on my face in the mirror, i never normally bothered much on weekdays but i figured it couldn't hurt. i thought i looked pretty good too, that would show draco. i headed down to the great hall for breakfast, looking around eagerly to see if he was here yet. he wasn't. i sighed and headed over to the gryffindor table.

my greeting from ron, hermione and harry was more than satisfactory though. ron actually choked on the yoghurt he was scoffing when he saw me. 'bloody hell y/n you look good' he exclaimed, wiping the yoghurt that he'd spat out off himself. 'you look pretty' harry added, blinking at me. i laughed at him, smacking him gently with my bag 'don't sound so bloody shocked' i giggled 'i can make an effort from time to time'.
'i know but not normally like this' hermione chipped in 'we're not the only ones who've noticed either' she grinned, nodding over to cedric diggory staring at me. i rolled my eyes 'as if cedric would be paying attention to me' i scoffed 'he has half the girls in school after him'. i put my head down, concentrating on my yoghurt and pretending like i wasn't bothered. secretly though, i felt a thrill. if even cedric had thought i'd looked good, what would draco think? i looked up to see if he'd came in yet and was disappointed to see his spot on the slytherin table still empty. i frowned, looking up at the clock. he was going to be late for first lesson if he didn't get a move on.

the two sides of my brain were battling it out. half of me thought i should probably go make sure draco hadn't fell back asleep, but the other half of me thought he didn't deserve me too after the way he'd spoke to me this morning. 'y/n?' hermione started 'we're heading to first lesson, you coming?'.
'umm, no. i forgot i have to see mcgonagall' i blurted quickly and ron raised his eyebrows. 'okay then' hermione replied 'see you later'. i waved at them until they were out of sight and then started down the corridor towards the slytherin common room. draco had spoke to me like shit, but he'd just been upset that i'd reminded him he was no longer prefect. 'y/n wait!' someone shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me out of my thoughts. 'cedric?' i said, confused 'what are you doing here?'. he bent over, read in the face and panting. 'just- let me- catch my breath- had to run after you- phew' he panted 'you were so deep in thought, you didn't even notice me yelling'.
'oh, sorry' i smiled, embarrassed 'what did you want?'.
'i, um, i wanted to know if you were going with anyone to the yule ball yet?' he grinned.
'uh, no i'm not' i replied, forcing myself to smile back. 'oh well in that case, would you maybe come with me?' he asked, blushing 'only if you want to, it was probably a stupid idea. the dance isn't for weeks anyway-'
'cedric, cedric, cedric' i laughed 'stop panicking, i'd love to come with you'.
'wait?' he paused 'really?'.
'yes, really' i giggled.
'oh. cool' he grinned 'can i walk you to class?'.
'sure'
