'i can't believe it's over' draco whispered, squeezing my hand tight. i wondered for a second if he was going to cry, but instead he threw his head back and shouted with laughter. i couldn't contain myself from reaching over and kissing him desperately, wanting to let the world sink away around us. he kissed me back, pulling away after a second and grinning. 'race you to the end of the bridge?' i smiled and he shook his head no, holding up our linked hands as if that explained everything. 'what?' i asked, 'is the fact we're holding hands an excuse not to race? you could just, you know, let go'. i attempted to unlink my hand and he grabbed it tighter, wrapping his other hand around my body to grab my other hand too. he span me around to face him, pressing his forehead against mine. 'no' he whispered, and i shivered feeling the breath against my lips 'i'm never letting you go again'. he pressed his lips against mine again, gently this time, how i imagined it would be the first time we kissed, if we'd got together traditionally. he must have been thinking the same because he paused, looking at me regretfully. 'i'm sorry i haven't always been the best to you. it took me almost an entire year to see i was in love with you. you should never have been just a hookup'.
's'ok' i shrugged, reaching forward and blinking against his cheek. butterfly kisses. he'd once told me his mother used to give him a butterfly kiss every night before bed. 'it was worth the wait'. he smiled at my gratefully, dropping one of my hands and returning back to the side of me. 'let's run to the end of the bridge together?' he suggested, rubbing his thumb in circles against the back palm of my hand. i smiled at him, how did he still not understand i would do anything for him. 'okay'.

and we ran.
