Opening night

"I'm nervous! Matthew what if I fuck up! Have you've seen what people have been saying about me playing Fanny Brice!" I screamed around our apartment.

Yes, our apartment. We moved in together about a month ago. We thought it was 'necessary' sense we will be on broadway.

Well, I will be on broadway.

Matthew is just an understudy. For now, I hope.

"You won't! Damn it! Andrea you won't!" He yelled back at me.

"Who cares what the fuck people say?" Matthew said.

"They said I'm not perfect for the part!" I yelled.

"Remember what I told you back in June? Not only are you ready for this, but you are Fanny Brice."

"I believe you told me I was Barbra?" I said.

"You know what I meant!" he replied.

"Okay, I think I'm good. I just can't fuck this up." I said.

I stood behind the curtains. We were about to perform our second act. The male lead was right beside me.

His name is Andrew, and damn he is a good singer!

When we practiced a lot together, he was such a good performer.

The curtains opened, and Andrew and I were ready to sing.

I started singing, and then it was Andrew's part.

He sang and was starting to sing his next part and then froze.

I turned to look at him.

Oh my god!

Oh my god this is not happening!

He's just standing there, and now I am too.

He forgot his part?!

I can't look like a fool.

I then started to sing his part. He looked at me, and then started catching up, and he sung the rest of his part.

After our show was over, we went to our dressing rooms.

Andrew came into mine freaking out.

"Your freaking out?! You made me look like a fool!" I yelled.

Matthew then came into the room.

"Andrea you did amazing!" he came to me about to give me a hug.

"Stop Matt, can't you see? I fucked up." I sighed.

"If anyone fucked up it was all Andrew, not you Andrea." Matthew reassured me.

"Oh my god what is our director going to say?" Andrew started freaking out even more.

Soon enough our director came in.

Shit.

He walked straight to Andrew.

"What the hell? Andrea you did amazing! Andrew you screwed the hell up! Andrea had to save your ass! There are critics out there, and if they don't like this show, it's over! All our money, zap! Gone! And that's showbiz. Do you know what happens to people on broadway who forget the lyrics on stage? They give the job to their understudy."

Matthew and I looked at each other with wide eyes.

"Andrew guess what? Your fired!" our director yelled.

"Matthew and Andrea get ready for the final act." he said.

"Oh and Andrea? You can't screw this up. Make sure what just happened, never happened. You can do it, I know you can. After all, you are, Fanny Brice." he winked at me.

Matthew and I were onstage ready to perform. Before the curtains went up, Matthew made small talk with me.

"Andrea I just want to say that without you none of this would've happened. Thank you for making me go to see Wicked. It changed my life. I love you for that." he said.

"I want to thank you actually Matt. Thank you for taking me to that empty broadway stage when it was raining. Im really glad you took me there."

"I'm glad I took you there too."

I hugged him as he hugged me back, maybe even tighter.

We then released, and we looked in each others eyes.

He cupped my face.

"Can I kiss you?" he asked.

I giggled quietly, knowing that there was an audience out there.

I nodded.

He leaned in slowly and closed his eyes. I got on my tippy toes because he was really tall and I closed my eyes as well.

Our lips then touch and I felt something.

I felt fireworks.

In the past when Matthew had kiss me I felt nothing, but this time is just so different.

We pulled away and I smiled then we saw the curtain rise up so we quickly got in our positions.

We then finished the last of our act.

•the next morning•

"Matthew! Wake up, wake up!" I yelled shaking Matt's shoulder.

"What?" he groaned.

"We have to go to the closest newsstand to see what the they said about Funny Girl!" I replied.

"Okay. Im up." he said.

We quickly ran out of our apartment in our pajamas.

We went to a newsstand across the street, and I picked up the newspaper I was dying to look for.

Matthew quickly paid the guy for the newspaper, and Matthew then asked, "What does it say?"

It said:
|The New York Times|
Opening Night: Funny Girl

"On September 5, 2014 I attended the opening night of Funny Girl. To which I was judging two certain people: Andrea Russett and Andrew Quincy.

In the first act, I was very pleased with Ms.Russet's performance. She reminded me of a once young, Barbra Streisand. She made me feel like I was young. She nailed it.

During the second act it went smoothly. Andrea sang beautifully, and so did Andrew. That was until he decided to freeze, to which Andrea Russett saved his foolishness with singing his part! Now that is a true Broadway star. Props to Ms.Russett.

On the final act I then realize that Quincy was replaced, thank god! Instead a tall teen came out with amazing talent. It made me start to wonder, 'why did he get the understudy?'

I'm going to admit, I did shed a few tears. There is no other way to say this, but I would love to go back and see that all over again, and Andrea Russett and Matthew Espinosa equals Broadway Stars."

I jumped with joy and hugged Matthew. He spun me around laughing then he set me down.

"So, about that kiss yesterday?" Matthew trailed off.

"Oh shut up." I said grabbed his face then kissing him.
