About Alec:

Shortly after his birth in Idris, Alec was exiled from his homeland, and banned from returning unless on official Shadowhunter business, because of his parents' places in the Circle. He grew up in the New York Institute, run by his parents, and called that home for the rest of his childhood.

Alec began struggling with his sexuality at a very early age. Quickly, he realised that he was attracted solely to men. When he was eleven, Alec developed a small, brief crush on the when he visited the Institute on business regarding the Clan. After, (turned Herondale) was adopted into their family, Alec's affection shifted towards him.They soon became very close friends; eventually, they became . Because of the Clave's stand on homosexuality, he kept his sexuality a secret, with his sister, Isabelle, being the only person who knew.

Alec was always a leader, taking measures to protect his family and loved ones on missions. Because of this, he didn't take too kindly to a certain red-headed sighted mundane who brought more danger into their lives. He was quite aggressive to Clary who took reckless measures to save her mother, not thinking things through. Though, deep down, he cared for her too and wanted her to be safe, even if she annoyed the hell out of him.

Another close person to Alec is Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn. The two of them met at a party, with Alec following up on a lead about Valentine's return. Magnus openly flirted with Alec from the first moment they met. Alec, however, was oblivious at first.

Alec got injured on a mission to retrieve the Mortal Cup, and Hodge called Magnus to help to fix him, even though he was working with Valentine. After Alec had recovered, he was told about what Magnus did for him and went to his apartment to thank him. There, he realised the extent of Magnus' feeling for him, and his feelings for Magnus, and he asked the warlock out on a date and shared a sweet first kiss with him.

After the Dark War, Alec was appointed acting Head of the New York Institute whist his mother was unable to, later taking over full time.

Alec and Magnus adopted their first child when Simon attended the Shadowhunter Academy. It was a warlock baby, abandoned by its parents, with navy blue skin. They named it Max, after Alec's late brother.
