Chapter 31

Kit took off his shoes and silently entered his parents' house... His heart was beating rapidly when he saw that his father was waiting for him by the door.

- Pa... He greeted his father and gave him a hug but he felt weird when his father didn't hug him back.

- Have you eaten your dinner?... Kit's father asked in a stern voice.

Kit shook his head and he shuddered when his father grunted and motioned him to follow.

- Ma... Kit greeted his mother who had came over and hugged him as he entered the dining room with his father.

- Sit... Kit's father commanded before he took a seat opposite his son... Eat your dinner while we talk.

- Yes, Pa... Kit replied obediently.

Kit's mother ruffled his son's hair and sat next to him as she gestured her only child to eat the food that she had prepared for him. 

- How are you, Kit?... She asked whilst fondly rubbing his son's back repeatedly.

- I'm fine, Ma... Kit smiled and slowly ate his dinner... He was having  goosebumps because of his father's intimidate stare... He shivered as their eyes met when he glanced at his father's austere face.

- How's work?... Do you have time to eat proper meal?... Kit's mother asked, worrying over his son who rarely came back to visit because he was too busy with his work.

- I'm still adapting.

- Are you happy with your life?... Kit's father cut off the conversation between his wife and his son.

- I am, Pa.

- What about your love life?... Are you in a relationship?... Kit's father interjected... He leaned forward and put both of his hands on the table as he narrowed his eyes towards Kit who had stopped eating.

- I am, Pa... Kit replied as he put down his spork... He leaned back and braved himself to look back at his father.

- Care to tell us about that person.

Kit was mute... He couldn't open his mouth to speak... He was afraid that his parents would be shocked by his confession.

- Why can't you say anything about your lover?... Kit's father questioned his son... Why, Kit?... Because your lover is a guy?... Is that why you can't tell us about him?

Kit was flabbergasted by his father's remarks... He turned to his mother and he just realised that his mother knew about the matter as well. 

- Ho..how did you guys know?

Kit's father stood up and went into the living room then came back with an envelope in his hands... He took his seat and passed that big envelope to Kit.

Kit took out its contents hesitantly and he was stupefied when he saw his photos with Ming and a letter telling that he had snatched someone's fiance were inside that envelope... He was really mad because he knew precisely who was the sender.

- We received this yesterday... Do you know who sent this letter?

Kit nodded a couple of times as he put back everything inside the envelope. 

- It's from Ming's former fiance.

- Did you really snatch his fiance?

- I didn't, Pa... Trust me, I did not... Kit reassured his parents.

- How did this happen, Kit?... How could you fall in love with a guy?... Kit's mother asked softly whilst holding his son's hand and rubbed it gently.

- I don't know, Ma... It just happened... I didn't plan to love a guy, but I can't help it... He makes my life happy and worth living for... Kit explained softly but still audible enough for his parents to listen.

- What if we don't approve of this relationship?... Kit's father questioned his one and only son.

Kit's breath hitched as he heard the question... His eyes started to glisten and he trembled vigorously when the thought of breaking up with Ming filled his mind.

- Answer me, Kit.

- As much I love him... Kit paused to wipe his tears that began to fall tremendously... I will not disobey you... Pa, Ma... I may be hurt because of my decision... and I know that I will hurt Ming as well... but I don't think I deserve the happiness if you two are not happy... How can I be happy if you're not happy?... He added in sadness.

- Is that all you can say?... Don't you want to protect your love?

Kit didn't reply... He looked down and shook his head slowly.

- Do you really love that guy, Kit?... I don't feel like you do.

Kit turned to his mother and held her hand tightly. 

- I love Ming, Ma... I really do... But if I have to choose between my parents and my boyfriend... I will choose my parents... I can't lose you two... You're my family.

Kit's mother hugged his son and she couldn't suppress her tears anymore.

- Give me your phone, Kit.

Kit was reluctant but slowly he passed his phone to his father who took it immediately and placed a call to Ming.

- Hello, kitten?... How's everything?... Are you okay?... I'm worried, Kit... I can't sleep thinking about you.

- This is not Kit... This is his father.

- Err... Hello, Sir... Pardon for my rudeness earlier... I didn't know that I was talking to you, Sir... How are you, Sir?... I'm Ming, a friend of your son.

- Just a friend?... So, you're not his boyfriend?... Kit's father glanced at his son who was still crying... Then my son is crying for nothing since the person that he addressed as his boyfriend doesn't admit that he is the boyfriend.

- Err... Sir...  I...I am his boyfriend... I didn't admit it because I was not sure if Kit has told you about me... B..but Sir, why is Kit crying?... Is he okay, Sir?

- If you want to know, come here tomorrow eight a.m. sharp... I'll text the address to you... Don't even try to call him because I will confiscate his phone until you appear tomorrow... So, make sure you'll be here by that time... Kit's father hung up and texted the address to Ming.

- Pa... Why did you invite Ming over?... Kit was really worried.

- You will know tomorrow... Kit's father replied as he stood up... Just go to sleep and rest well, Kit... We will talk again tomorrow when Ming gets here... He said and left Kit alone with his mother.

- Ma...

- Listen to your Pa... Go to sleep and rest, okay... Kit's mother wiped the remaining tears on her son's face, before she followed her husband retreated to their bedroom.
