The smell of fresh coffee filled my nose as I entered the coffee shop. It wasn't too busy this morning, thankfully. I walked towards the counter before placing my order.
"Usual please, Leah" I smiled.
"Sure thing, sweetie. You got a busy day today?" Leah asked from behind the counter.
I shook my head before replying, "nope," I popped the 'p', "just gonna chill here and do some writing," I smiled once again.
Leah laughed a little before speaking, "alright sweetheart, i'll bring it over to you," she beamed.
I walked over to a table next to a window - my usual seat - before sitting down. The morning sun warmed my skin through the thick glass window as I leaned back into my seat. I opened my notebook to the last page I was writing on, before clicking my pen and bringing it to my mouth. I had a very bad habit of chewing pens. I scanned the page over before I was interrupted by the scratching sound of a chair being dragged across the floor from behind me. I rolled my eyes before turning around.
"Kid, you do this every time. Pick the chair up instead of dragging it, damn" I complained, looking up at the tall figure.
He chuckled before sitting down, "no, because I know it annoys the fuck out of you," he smirked before turning away. I rolled my eyes before turning back around too.
"Here you go, one cappuccino and one chocolate brownie." Leah said as she placed my order on my table. I thanked her and she flashed me a friendly smile which I gladly returned before eating my brownie.
"Leah, babe, let's go out for a drink," the guy behind me flirted. I rolled my eyes at his rudeness but continued to eat my brownie.
"Darling, I'm probably about 12 years older than you," she laughed.
"Hm, well then I'll have my usual," he sighed, and off Leah went.
Once i finished my brownie, I took a few sips of my drink before bringing my pen to the paper. I paused for a moment, before letting the words flow out.
you told me that we'd have forever
but, forever isn't as long as i thought,
for you left me here to pick up the pieces
and put them back together,
but what if i still can't do that alone?
what if i need someone to do it for me
because i'm so broken?
what if i never learn to love someone
as much as i once loved you?
it hurts,
the pain inside me is like a hurricane,
crushing my bones,
everything inside is crumbling.
i thought you'd come back for me,
but it's been 2 years,
and you're nowhere to be seen.
i guess my forever was different to your forever,
our forever wasn't as long as i thought.I took a breath before putting my pen down.
"Earth to Katy?," Leah sung, poking me slightly.
I snapped my head up to her quickly, "shit, sorry, were you talking to me?" I asked.
"Yeah," she chuckled, "would you like me to get you anything else?" she smiled, I shook my head in reply before apologising once more and she soon walked away. I like Leah, she's super friendly and seems to be constantly happy - either that or she's good at hiding her pain, like myself. It makes me wonder, though, about how many people hide their pain. are we all lost? are we all trying to find that bit of happiness? are we all succumbed in that deep, empty feeling?
My thoughts were interrupted by a deep voice, "hey uh, wanna go grab some food?"
I turned around and locked eyes with him. After all this time of knowing him, well, seeing him here, I have never noticed how incredibly beautiful his eyes are. I guess his black metal lip ring and dimpled smile always distracted me from the deep blue of his eyes.
"No, sorry," I sighed before turning back around. He sighed too, before tapping my shoulder. I turned around again, trying to avoid his eyes.
"Why don't you like me?" he asked.
I shrugged before replying, "I never said I didn't, sugar," I winked, which gained a stifled laugh from him.
"well, we've both been coming here for a long time, and we always sit in the same seats, but yet, I know nothing about you," he furrowed his eyebrows at me as he bit his lip while playing with his lipring.
I nodded in agreement, before finally introducing myself to him, "I'm Katy," I smiled.
He looked back up at me, and our eyes locked again, "I'm Luke," he smirked. "You always get so caught up in your writing. It's like, once a pen is placed in your hand and you have something to write on, everything around you stops, until you finish writing. Why is that? Why are you always writing?" He asked, looking at me intently.
I sighed before turning away from him. He huffed loudly, then stood up quickly before instantly leaving.
If only he understood.
