Chapter 7: New Enemy? Confession?

"So this is what they all look like, huh?" Niko asked, holding a picture with his right hand. He sat on a chair behind a huge desk with piles of papers above it.

"Yeah. It was taken seven years ago, though. We do not know what they look like as of now. The five girls were said to have escaped, but there were no news about the firstborn's whereabouts or condition, same as the remaining kids." Zone answered, fixing his tie as he sat cross-legged in the air.

"Escaped? Why would they? They have such luxurious and comfortable lives and they take pleasure in doing their specialty: killing. What's there to run away from?" Niko placed the picture above the desk, his eyes fixed on a certain person in the picture.

"Beats me." Zone answered, shrugging. "He's looking for them right now. The reward is big-ticket. The search has been going on for years now, I don't know how many exactly."

"Still no trace?"

"None. Nada. It was like their existences were erased. There were no records, no footage, no traces of Nen, whatsoever. Their traces were just like... poof... and boom! They're gone, not resurfacing through all these years." Niko massaged his temple, his lips tugging up into a smirk.

"Interesting." He mused, loosening his tie and pushing his unruly brown hair back using his fingers.

"Indeed." Zone agreed, stretching his legs out until he reached the floor.

"Let's stick our butts into this matter. Let's find them, return them, but I'll take this girl with me." He said, pointing at a certain girl in the picture.

"Alright, it's decided. But first.." Zone looked behind him, grimacing seeing dozens of piled bodies that he and Niko collected. "Let's clean up."

At the other side of the city Illumi and Hisoka were still on the run. Illumi was behind Hisoka who was carrying Hisashi. They are currently heading to a forest not too far from the city since they can't go back to Hisashi's house. The two might follow them.

"That was a clever idea." Illumi said, making Hisoka chuckle.

"It was simple, actually."

"What did you do?"

"While I was following San, I made a clone of Hisa-chan using my Texture Surprise and Bungee Gum. I left it hanging behind the building where we jumped." He grinned, savoring the taste of victory. "When I threw Hisa-chan up, it wasn't her that I managed to catch. It was the clone, and Hisa-chan was left down below. They didn't notice, thanks to your needles."

"Impressive." Illumi praised him with a monotone voice, making him snicker as they set foot in the dirt of the forest. They dashed through the trees, Hisoka holding Hisashi tightly. When Hisoka thinks that they're already far enough, he slowed down, looking for a place to rest and put Hisa-chan down.

When Hisoka found what he was looking for, he stopped and put Hisashi down, letting her back rest against a huge tree as he crouched down beside her almost immediately. He raised her shirt up, examining the bandages to see if there was blood. The moonlight was shining their way so he can still see clearly.

"What happened to Hisashi?" Illumi asked, piercing his needles in his clothes while Hisoka pulled Hisashi's shirt down.

"She was punched by a conjured brass knuckle and she wouldn't stop bleeding. To think that San and that girl attacked the same time that Hisa-chan cannot fight, they planned this to happen." Hisoka answered, sitting beside Hisashi and letting her head rest on his shoulder.

"What do they want?"

"I don't know. I forgot to ask them."

"Well, then, I know that you can take it from here. Just call me when you need help." Illumi said, patting Hisashi's head. "And Hisoka, if you didn't claim her as yours, I could've married her." Illumi turned his head before walking away. Hisoka only smiled, leaning his head against the tree and closing his eyes, observing his surroundings.

Hisashi's breathing was even, so he knows that she's okay. All those running and throwing and she's still asleep. She must be exhausted, not to mention a heavy sleeper.

"Hisa-chan, I already lost count in how many times I caught you before you fall off the bed." He said, smiling at the memories. He knows that Hisashi can't hear him but he still said that. There's no harm anyway.

A few minutes later, Hisashi stirred in her sleep, making him open his eyes and look at her. She rubbed her eyes, groaning as her stomach wound throbbed.

"Hisoka?" She called out, looking for him.

"Hmmm?" Hisoka hummed as an answer, smiling when he realized how Hisashi looked for him first when she woke up.

"Where are we? What happened?" She asked, sitting upright and wincing as she noticed the forest they are in.

"We're in a forest not too far from your house. Two people tried to take you away from me, but I asked Illumi to come and he helped me take you back." He answered as she took a deep breath, eyeing her surroundings.

"Don't worry, no one's close." He assured her and she nodded. She was basically trusting her enemy, but who cares? She is Hisashi, and being crazy is number one in her vocabulary.

"Who attempted to take me away?" She asked in a low voice, trying to shift on her seat.

"You don't need to know." She sighed, giving up on trying to move and just let her body lean on to Hisoka's.

"Why?"

"It's already over. I'll take you back later." He took out a joker card, playing with it.

"How can you say that it's already over?"

"I just know." He grinned, the image of Illumi's needle pierced on those two's nape playing in his mind. "I definitely know."

"Okay, then. I trust you."

"It's wrong to trust your enemy." He pointed out, tossing the card in the air and turning it into petals that began to dissolve in the air. He took out another card, tossed it in the air and was about to turn it into petals once again but her words stopped him.

"But I don't think of you as my enemy." The card fell on the ground as he stared at her, wide-eyed. "And I know you don't, too."

"H-How can you be so sure?" It was such a very rare happening for Hisoka to be stuttering. He was taken aback by her statement, and no matter how much he wanted to hide that fact, his stutter only confirmed it.

"No person would stay in the same house with his enemy, sleep on the same bed and even do something more, care for her, accompany her, and even save her when she's in trouble. No person in the right mind would do that." She pointed out, making Hisoka scoff.

"You are my enemy but I like doing those to you. I guess I'm not in the right mind, then."

"Are you confessing?" Hisashi asked, laughing at his words. He just smiled, averting his gaze towards the moon that can be seen through the gap of the branches and leaves.

A few minutes later, they both went home. Hisashi slept the pain away and Hisoka was clearly tired from all that running while carrying her. They both slept peacefully, not bothered by the abduction incident that took place a while ago.

Crazy, indeed.
