Chapter 25: The Truth Behind the Warfare

As they got closer and closer to the Illusionism Ruins, Hisashi was asleep in Hisoka's arms as he made his way to the exit of the aircraft. After talking to Gon and Killua, Hisashi slept due to exhaustion. He didn't want to wake her up since he knew that she was tired so he just carried her instead. Behind him was Gon and Killua who were talking in hushed voices.

Hisoka already knew what she would do to Silverio. But now that she's asleep, he'll do it for her.

"Say, Hisoka, what is really happening in this warfare?" Gon asked from behind him making him smirk. He and Hisashi found that out during the warfare itself.

"During those times that we weren't joining the hunt, we were actually following the demon. There were also two people tailing us and Hisa-chan took care of them so they weren't really a problem. All those days that we were following Scaldric, we observed one thing he repeatedly says. Your life depends on your answer." As the door leading to the outside opened, he stepped a foot outside and started walking towards the Illusionism Ruins.

"And?" Killua asked as he walked briskly to walk beside Hisoka.

"You'll hear everything once we're inside." He said as they entered the vicinity. They saw Silverio standing on a platform, a wide smile on his face.

"Welcome back, fighters!" He greeted enthusiastically. Killua immediately noticed how his hands were trembling but he just shrugged it off. Gon smiled at Silverio while Hisoka proceeded to the corner, sitting down and leaning against a pillar with Hisashi on his lap. He was cradling her while she slept like a rock. Killua couldn't help but notice how gentle he was to her. If he was still the old Hisoka, he could've woke her up instead of carrying her. There's something definitely going on between these two. He thought, following Gon as he headed to a place not too far from Hisoka.

A few minutes later, Yukoi, Tasha, Desune, and Pia arrived. Both Gon and Killua didn't fail to notice the terrified looks Desune and Pia gave to Hisoka and Hisashi but they didn't bother asking.

"Now that all of the remaining contenders are here, I wanted go congratulate all of you for the job well done." He said, clapping his hands at them. "My heart was deeply moved because of your overwhelming strength and conviction. Choosing all of you to be the contenders is such a good choice."

"Quit with your yapping." All of their heads turned towards Hisoka. He was crouching down in front of Gon with Hisashi in his arms. He let her body lay on the floor and let her head rest on Gon's lap who was more than happy to oblige. He, then, stood up straight, looking at Silverio with a smirk.

"Say, Silverio, is Scaldric really that weak for you to tremble because there were survivors?" He asked Silverio who widened his eyes for a brief moment before regaining his composure. Killua eyed Hisoka who took his cards out. So he noticed? He thought, sitting beside Gon and the sleeping Hisashi.

"I don't know what you are talking about, Hisoka." Silverio answered, putting both of his hands behind him. Hisoka hummed, a sarcastic smile on his face.

"Really? Well, then can you tell me what the demon said before he let you go?" Silverio cleared his throat before chuckling nervously.

"My apologies, but I can't catch up with you."

"Oh, really?" Hisoka mused as he started to walk towards Silverio. Desune and Pia who were watching from the sides held each other's hands as they squirmed in fear.

"Hisoka, please stay where you are."

"I refuse."

"W-Wha—"

"Are you that terrified of letting your contenders know about the truth behind this warfare?" Killua and Gon's ears perked up when they heard what Hisoka said. This is it. The moment of truth. The other contenders exchanged looks, oblivious as to what he meant.

"Stay back!" Silverio shouted, terrified.

"The demon was too strong for you and you didn't know how to kill it. You only watched as your companions got devoured since cowardice got ahead of you. You were the last one left, you were desperate, so you asked the demon to spare your life and in exchange, you will bring people in as his food. Is that right?" Killian's eyes widened at what Hisoka said while Silverio took a step back.

"Stop!"

"We observed the demon and noticed that before killing his prey, he would ask. Are you willing to always bring me humans in exchange for your life?" Silverio's eyes were filled with terror as he took a few steps back. Hisoka only raised his index finger and Silverio was dragged and was dropped in front of him.

"No! No!" Silverio tried to stand up and run away but keeps failing miserably.

"Why would you fear such a weak demon, you coward?" Hisoka asked, throwing three cards at Silverio. Silverio immediately stood up and jumped backwards to dodge the cards.

"That's right! I'm a coward! That's why I sent all of you to him so he can eat you and I can keep on living!" He shouted, making Hisoka smirk.

"Now you said it." He took another step closer, earning a scream of terror from Silverio. Silverio can feel it. He can feel the bloodlust radiating from Hisoka. If he doesn't run, he's good as dead.

He took rocks from his pocket, tossing one in the air. It grew larger and started to engulf in flames. It was a fireball.  He threw it towards Hisoka who tilted his head to the left to dodge it, and another one that Hisoka avoided by stepping to the right. He kept on throwing and throwing and Hisoka dodged all of those with ease while walking towards him, a smile on his face. And that was when he knew that he fucked up.

Hisoka started to run and he immediately widened his eyes. Hisoka threw three cards at him simultaneously in which he dodged by jumping to the right. He could only widen his eyes when he felt that there was someone beside him. A punch landed on his cheek making him stumble to the left. Before he could even recover, Hisoka kneed his face and punched his stomach forcefully. He was thrown against one of the pillars of the Ruins as he coughed out blood and winced at the pain enveloping his body.

He tossed another rock, making it into a fireball before throwing it towards Hisoka. Hisoka put both of his palms together before stretching both of it to the side, bungee gum connecting one from the other. He used the same method that he did when he first caught his fireball, but unlike last time, he started to swing the fireball.

He used his bungee gum to keep his feet glued to the ground as he forcefully swung the fireball which was enveloped in bungee gum towards Silverio who had wide eyes. He smiled at him, his eyes squinting.

The fireball hit Silverio as he was pushed into another pillar. The pillar broke as Silverio dropped to the ground. Hisoka swung the fireball which is now a mere rock towards the sky and letting go before running towards Silverio, taking his cards out.

Silverio pushed himself to stand up, his eyes widening at the sight of Hisoka running towards him with a huge smile. And before he could even react, a card pierced on his neck and the other on his forehead. Hisoka, upon arriving in front of him, jumped. While he was upside down, he used both of his cards to slice Silverio's eyes, and then the sides of his neck. Silverio's limp body dropped to the ground, the same time as he landed quietly.

He smirked, eyeing the now dead Silverio in the corner of his eye when he suddenly heard a clap. He looked back, only to see Hisashi who was now awake and was seated beside Gon, clapping with a smile on her face. Gon's mouth was agape as he stared at Silverio's body while Killua's eyebrows were meeting. Desune and Pia were on the verge of crying while Yukoi and Tasha were both shocked.

He made his cards disappear as he started to walk towards Hisashi. When he was close enough, Hisashi immediately jumped to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and squealing. And because he was taller, Hisashi only reaching his neck, she was literally hanging on him.

"Thank you!" She said, burying her face on his neck. He encircled his arms around her waist, letting her hug him and a smile etched on his lips.

And with that, Killua and God exchanged looks with one thought lingering in their minds.

Is this man still Hisoka?
