Maybe it was the look in Sapnaps eyes that made George want to run.
Or perhaps it was the tone of voice that the words were spoken in.
Either way, all George knew now was that he was running and he wasn't going to stop.
He could hear footsteps behind him, but when turning around he discovered that it was not Dream but a pyromaniac that wielded a shiny iron sword.
"Oh Georgie-Poo! My love~"
"The compass!" George's mind screamed. "Get the compass off him!"
Turning around, George slammed his body into Sapnaps, wincing at impact. Slamming his friend down and attempting to wrestle the compass out of his opposite hand.
There was a flash of panic in his friends eyes, and George was pushed off. The suns rays flashed off Sapnaps iron sword, momentarily blinding George.
A precious moment for Sapnap.
George was pushed off, and there was a blinding pain in his leg, right above where he had been burned awhile ago. (Although the burn was mostly healed up due to all the food George had been eating.)
Rolling on the ground, George quickly recollected himself, wanting to cry out in pain. Instead he gathered his iron sword and waved it at his friend.
Sapnap slid to the left, dodging the blade with ease and went for the stab on George's waist. George, noticing the attack managed to parry in time to block the hit.
The swords clashed, the sound of ringing metal was heard.
George pushed Sapnaps blade away from him, and jumped backwards. Bending down, George picked up a handful of sand and threw it at Sapnaps face.
Sapnap splattered, waving his hand as small specks of rocks pelting his face and some getting in his eyes.
Seizing the chance, George quickly waved the blunt part of his sword at Sapnaps legs, knocking him off his feet and landing him face first into the sand.
"See ya later idiot!" George called over his shoulder as he quickly dragged himself back into the desert.
He could hear Sapnap scream something back.
It sounded oddly like a swear word.

"Dream? Dream?"
George's voice was wavering. He had spent the last who knows how long both running and trying to locate his masked friend.
Night was about to fall, and he didn't want to risk being out in the open. It wasn't a smart idea at all.
So, he caved.
Mining into the wall,he discovered a hidden cave with hidden surprises galore.
Crafting a torch, he dove deeper into the cave, managing to acquire himself enough iron to fix his armour, and make the missing things he required.
Tired out of his mind, George was about to call it quits when something light blue and sparkly caught his attention.
Diamonds!
His heart jumping, he quickly scurried over and minded out the four diamonds waiting for him.
Accompanied by the diamonds, was a lava pool. Too small to do the quick portal trick, but enough to make a portal if George made obsidian and mine it up.
So he did just that.
A quick 4 minutes later, George was armed with a slightly used diamond pickaxe, and 10 bits of obsidian.
Faintly grinning, he quickly retraced his steps to make his way out of the cave.
But then he got lost so he just towered out,
Soon, sand fell on top of him, covering him up to the waist. Climbing out of the gritty rocks, he pulled himself onto the surface.
The area was full of mobs, although none of them had noticed him yet... although he saw something peculiar.
Light, in the far distance.
He could make out a portal frame hanging off a stone pillar.
A ruined portal.
That...
That was lit.

The sun was out now, and George was stood in front of the 'ruined portal' staring it down.
(More or less he was slightly pissed off that he wasted time getting obsidian last night...)
He had spent the night to clear out any of the mobs, and collected the materials off of their rotting burning corpses when the sun had rose up.
The wheels in George's head were turning, wondering how this was possible.
Two options.
Dream did it, or Sapnap did it.
George couldn't see a reason for Sapnap to do it, unless he knew that both him AND Dream were in the nether.
Unless he planned to find the fortress first and mine the spawner.
For Dream, it made more sense. Perhaps Dream prayed that George would be able to hold off Sapnap while he ran into the nether to speedrun getting blaze and ender pearls.
I mean, there were hoglins right?
The chests around the portal were looted, and all that remained in them was a pile of cobblestone and a few bones.
So whoever was here had a packed inventory.
George's mind couldn't make up if this was a pathway to his friend, or a trap to his untimely demise.
Luckily he didn't have to.
His feet made the decision for him.
Quickly, but delicately, he stepped up into the frame and allowed himself to be pulled deeper.
We need to go deeper.

Congrats on reading Chapter Twenty-Three!
Hhhh why do I hate this chapter so much it just seems so rushedqbdkabk.
Also, Incorrect Quotes! Yes or No. I've been debating about it for a while and I still don't know.
Okay, so according to Wattpad statistics, only a tiny ity-bitty small percentage of you are voting. So vote or Tommy will run you over with a mine cart.
All my best,
