chapter 85: time heals all wounds

"Wait, stop, don't go-" Jennie rushed forward, holding Yoongi to his words before he could leave the scene. "What do you mean by that?"

Yoongi didn't say a word.

"What did you say again? 'Who said I don't have feelings for you?' Is that what you said?" Jennie furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "What's that supposed to mean, hm?"

Yoongi tried to pry Jennie's fingers off him. "Let go - it doesn't matter, anyway."

"No, it does," Jennie insisted. "To me, at least - it matters. So tell me, quick."

"I think... I'm starting to like you too," Yoongi said softly, completely avoiding Jennie's gaze. "But I'm keeping them under control, and so should you."

"I don't want to."

"You have to."

"But I don't want to-" Jennie insisted. "Why should I? I'm not going to."

"I already told you not to," Yoongi said coldly. "If you still refuse to listen, that's your own problem."

"We can be friends, but we can't go beyond that?" Jennie rolled her eyes. "How does that even work?"

"You were the one who wanted to become friends, I just relented-" Yoongi pursed his lips. "But that's as far as I can go with you - or anyone else."

"Why?"

"You know why."

"Why? Just because you've been to jail?" Jennie blurted out. "It doesn't bother me at all, it doesn't change the way I feel about you one single bit-"

Yoongi glanced at her, his face emotionless. "It's not because of that."

"What is it then?" Jennie swallowed hard. "If the reason why you keep pushing me away is because of your past... I'm never gonna leave your side."

"You don't understand-"

"What do I not understand?"

Yoongi sighed and shook his head. "You don't know me... at all."

"Yes, I don't know you - so tell me!" Jennie raised her voice, getting upset. "I always try my best not to pry into your past. I have always faced you with my most honest feelings, but you have never once been frank with me. Even then, I still have never asked you anything, not even once - for fear that it might make you feel uncomfortable. But have you ever thought how unfair it is towards me? To constantly be pushed away from someone I like just because of his past, yet not be able to know what exactly I'm being pushed away for? If you said you don't have feelings for me, I would be hurt... but I could at least understand. But saying you have feelings for me but not wanting to let them grow? I'll never get that."

"I'm sorry, I really can't bring myself to tell you..." Yoongi said, as tears welled up in his eyes. "Just know that I'm doing this for your sake-"

"I myself can decide what's for my own good."

"No, you can't-"
