Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

Ugh. Morning. I groaned as I reached for the alarm, but before I could hit it, Ela slammed her fist down on the electronic clock, nearly destroying it.

"Looks like someone had the same idea."

Ela looked over to me, her hair messy and frizzled from just waking up.

She nodded sleepily before burying her head into my chest and wrapping her arms around me.

"I still need to charge."

I responded to her by wrapping her close, placing gentle kisses on her neck and shoulders. We laid there for a bit before the alarm went off again.

Ela hit it even harder the second time.

She grumble, "I'm still not done charging" into my chest before yawning and wrapping herself tight around me.

"So... what're you two doing today?" Masaru inquired, standing behind the small kitchen counter as he cooked rice in an instant-pot. He also had Miso soup, which I had finally developed a taste for, cooking in a pot on the gas-stove burner that sat on the counter.

I shrugged. "I dunno. We haven't really done anything the last few days, but something tells me that as soon as Ela comes out for breakfast she's gonna propose a plan for her and I."

Masaru nodded. "I don't know women too well, but I'm pretty sure you're right."

I laughed lightly. "You probably know more about women than I do."

Both of us chuckled to ourselves before Ela emerged from our room, dressed in one of the outfits she had bought the day we arrived at Masaru's house.

"Is breakfast almost done?"

Masaru nodded at Ela's question.

"Yeah, it'll be done in a minute or two. Rice just needs a second to cool. Why don't the both of you sit down at the table?"

Ela and I both listened to Masaru and seated ourselves at the small table we ate on. Masaru brought us breakfast quickly after, and the three of us all sat down to dig in.

"Itadakimasu!" Our makeshift family said in unison before digging into our meals.

I was finally starting to get used to chopsticks. No longer did Ela have to feed me like a baby; I could serve my own rice. Masaru still needed to teach me proper etiquette and all, but I was feeling a lot better and getting used to Japan much quicker than I had guessed. Of course, I could barely understand what anyone was saying, but Masaru had promised to begin giving us little Japanese lessons soon.

---------------

"Damn, that was good!"

Masaru rubbed his nape bashfully. "Thanks. I mean, I make that for breakfast every day, but compliments are always nice."

I patted him on the back as another thanks for cooking for us every day before Ela gently pulled on my sleeve.

"Yes?"

Ela pulled out her phone and showed it to me. Masaru looked at it over my shoulder.

"Ah, you want to take him to the fireworks festival? I completely forgot there was one nearby tonight."
