A young woman has been told
To never wear something short
Now hide her skin from the world
And makes her clothes her fort
Afraid unwanted hands and eyes
She might invite in such a guiseA lone student has been called
To take a seat with the other folk
An offer of friendship will unfold
But only if he’ll allow them to look
To the answers he diligently wrote
For that’s how they decide his worthA passionate poet has been forced
To set aside the pen he loves to use
For others have stolen without remorse
The poems he did his best to produce
Afraid his new works will never be safe
From the shameless thieves who takeA contemplative girl has been bold
To muse upon these neglected lines
Why do others’ opinions have a hold
On the way we choose to live our lives?
And why do innocents and victims must adjust
When they’re not the ones who acted unjust?
