that same day you and Draco are headed to your potions class, talking about the things you got him to do when Cedric calls out to you. you both look over and see him heading towards you. "be nice" you whisper, "no promises" he whispers back."hey cedric" you smile, "hi" he says as he kisses your cheek.

you hear Draco groan in disgust but both of you ignore it. "Draco and i were heading to class, we are late" "oh alright well i'll see you tonight then?" "yeah see you then" he looks at Draco coldly but fakes a smile. "Malfoy" Draco doesn't respond but you nudge his arm. "later Diggory".

Cedric smiles and walks away, Malfoy instantly scoffs. "i hate him" "why?" "he's just... terrible" "coming from you?" "different type of terrible" you both begin walking into your class where you are making a forgetfulness potion. when slughorn asks you all to partner up, you and Malfoy don't move from each other which confuses every student in there.

you both laugh at the looks you get but just grab all the things you need and stand at the table together. you both start organising all your ingredients and resources and open your potions books, looking for the page with the recipe.

"psst! y/n" Ron whispers from behind you, you turn around and smile. "yeah?" you whisper back. "you and Malfoy are partners?" "i can hear you Weasley" Malfoy responds. "yeah we are partners, it's only a one time thing don't worry" you reassure Ron. he nods at you as you turn back to your table.

you both begin doing the practical, helping each other with all of it. you work well together, both very cooperative to your surprise. you didn't expect to be able to actually do something in class with Malfoy as a partner but you've come to realise he is incredibly smart.

He seems like he could be Hermione type smart, he pretty much takes over the entire thing. "you're really good at this Draco" "thank you" he whispers without taking his eye off of what he is doing. he waves his wand to complete the potion and you're both the first ones to finish.

Slughorn comes to check your progress and congratulates you both on a good job. "very well done you two" "thank you" you both reply at the same time. you hear a small explosion sound from across the room and everyone jumps, looking over at Neville and Seamus who somehow very badly made a mistake in their potion.

You and Malfoy try to hold in your laughs, but when you see that he is about to laugh, and he sees you are, you both let it out. "i'm sorry Neville, Seamus" you say seriously when you stop yourself from laughing. "me too" Draco says unexpectedly. you look at him with such surprise, "you are?" "being nice remember?" he whispers. "oh..." you smile.

"how do you do this everyday" "do what? be kind? it's easy" "not when you're not used to it" "well there's always room to learn. start with apologies" "nah... there would be too many" "but it's a start, if you apologise to all of those people then there's not much left to do if they forgive you"

you look at his book that's wide open on the desk and that handwriting speaks to you again, it is so familiar. you can't figure out where you've seen it and it's bugging you a lot. "Malfoy?" "yeah?" "have you like... shown me something you've written before?" "um... no, why?" "your handwriting is really familiar"

"oh... weird" "yeah..." you whisper.

when the class is over, you pack up your things. "coming?" you ask Draco, he looks confused. "where?" "to hang out" "oh, sure" he follows you out of the classroom, it's silent while you walk until he speaks up. "y/n, you know today is just a one time thing" "sorry?" you ask as you stop walking. he stands in front of you and sighs.

"i'm not a nice person, just because i did some nice things for you it doesn't mean you should expect nice from me" "oh... okay" "you seem... sad?" "i'm not, i just like nice Draco believe it or not" he smiles then shakes his head. "you like me?" "only when you're nice... and i wouldn't say like i'd say tolerable" "nah you like me"

"actually i take it back, i hate you" "i hate you too you know?" "nah, you like me" you say, copying him. you both smile when Pansy approaches. "hey Draco-" she smiles, "-Y/n" she continues.

"hey, what's up?" Draco asks, she whispers something to him and laughs a little, he looks at you then back at her. "um y/n i have to go" "oh..." "yeah, we will see you later" Pansy smiles as she grabs Malfoy's hand. "um bye Draco... thank you for today" you say with a smile, "sure, bye y/l/n" he replies as he walks off with Pansy.

you feel a little upset, you don't know why but you do. you actually had a good day, unexpectedly. you shake off the thought and decide to go see Hermione before you hang out with Cedric tonight.
