you're sitting with the golden trio, completely zoned out. you're staring into the distance without knowing where you are, completely dissociated. all you can think about it what you were told this morning. as soon as Draco admitted it, you ran. You didn't say a word, you just got up and ran away.
you have been avoiding him since, you can't face him right now, you're finally brought back to reality by the snap of Hermione's finger in your face. "y/n are you okay?" you flinch and look at her, seeing the worried look on all their faces. "yeah... just thinking" you whisper gently.
"you look like you're going through something bad" Ron says as he sits beside you, rubbing your back gently. "what's up?" you don't want to tell them the truth just yet because you have no idea how you're going to handle it, so you figure out a small, harmless lie.
"i think i want to leave Cedric... he hasn't done anything wrong but like i said before, he's not my type. we have too many differences, it's not really working out the way i thought it would" "oh, do you need help letting him down?" Hermione asks. "no, i think i'm gonna tell him tonight when i see him, thank you though"
the three go back to talking while you continue thinking about what Draco said. you don't know how you're supposed to feel about it, you've always thought you guys would just hate each other forever. you spend the rest of your day trying to distract yourself, trying to focus on classes and people around you.
you have plans to meet with Cedric tonight like every other night, except tonight he asked you to his room. his roommates agreed to leave for the hour so you two can spend some time together. you start getting ready to go there, and when you are ready you leave the room.
you begin walking to Cedric's room, thinking about everything that's gone on today. you wonder if you should confront Cedric about the letter, but you sort of shake off that thought. you knock on his door and it takes him a moment to let you in. "hey!" he smiles. "hi..." you whisper.
"come on in" he moves out the way of the door and signals for you to walk through. you walk into the room and clear your throat as you watch him close the door. "so, how have you been today?" he asks as he sits on a bed, presumably his own. "uh, today's been... weird" you respond as you sit beside him. "weird? what happened?"
"oh nothing just... well, i got told something that's been rummaging in my mind" "what is it?" you hesitate on telling him, you don't want drama... but you really need to talk about this. "Malfoy told me something... Cedric, did you lie?" "lie about... what?" "the letter, the valentine's letter. did you lie about writing it?"
he stays silent then scoffs, shaking his head. "what else did he say?" "he said he wrote it" "and you believe him over me?" "Cedric it's not that-" "wow. so if he wrote it that means he likes you right? what are you planning to do with that information?" "i don't know..." "you know he's pathetic right? he's a loser."
"i- i don't think he's a loser" "he is y/n" he raises his voice as he stands up, pacing. "so you, you believe him over me and don't think he's a loser. you planning on getting with him?" "what? no... i just want to know why you lied" "i want you to go" "what?" you respond after a moment of silence, trying to register what just happened.
"i want you to leave, now" "i... okay" you whisper as you get up, you go to hug him but he moves, so you sigh. you leave the room and sniffle as tears begin to fall uncontrollably down your face. as hard as you try to stop crying, it doesn't work. you begin to walk back to your room and after a few minutes you hear your name called by a familiar voice.
you look up and wipe your tears to see clearly, when you see Draco your breath shudders. "why are you crying?" he asks, genuinely concerned. "i... uh, Cedric he..." you just stop, you can't talk right now. It doesn't even take him a second before he comes closer to you and hugs you, you hug him back immediately and sob harder into his sweater.
he stands there with you silently while you cry into him for a few minutes before you begin to pull away, wiping your face. "i drenched your sweater..." "it's okay, so do you want to talk about it?" "um... i confronted him about the letter. he got angry pretty fast and kicked me out" "he did what?" Malfoy asks, sounding angry.
"he got really defensive, asked me insane questions..." you sniffle. you look up and see Draco just watching you, you sigh softly. "i'm sorry for avoiding you and running away... i didn't know what to say or do" "it's okay, we don't have to talk about that" you stay silent for a moment before beginning to cry again randomly.
"shit i'm sorry, oh crap i swore... shit-" you just hear him laugh softly at you, so you look at him and smile. "sorry" "it's fine, you apologise too much" "yeah i tend to do that" "uh, do you want to hang out? get your mind off of Diggory?" "uh... yeah. that would be nice, thank you"
"sure, this way" he nods and begins walking, you watch him for a moment, smiling to yourself. you follow him and walk along side him.
