The dinner was going smoothly so far. Although, there was that moment when we were all sitting down on table and my parents insisted that i sit beside Dex and because I didn't want to create a scene in front of Wes's new girlfriend, I didn't object.

Her name was Brenda. She was pretty with those big die eyes and an extremely sharp jaw line. but her dress seemed kind of over the top, though. It was a family dinner, why was she wearing a cocktail dress?

"So tell me, Brenda," Dad started as he dig in the Chicken. "Where are you from?"

Brenda was about to take a sip of her wine but stopped upon hearing the question and sat the glass down on the table and smiled. "I'm was born in Gambia, it's a small country in Africa. But my parents moved here after the year I was born."

"What do your parents do?" Dad asked.

I guess the poor girl's interview has begun.

"My dad is a contractor and my mother is an aspiring artists." She said.

"Do you have any siblings?" He asked.

"Yes, two. They're both younger than me and in high school." She replied.

"Interesting." Dad said and took a bite of the chicken. "So how'd you two meet?"

The way that both Brenda and Wes smiled at that question told me that they are in love.

"Oh. I was volunteering in the debates department in college and one day he just walked in." She said and smiled sweetly at him.

Awwee they're sweet.

"Yeah, it felt like the wind pushed me in there." Wes said.

Ewww. Cringe!

"Yes, well God has planned for us to meet our special ones in mysterious ways that we never expected." Dad said.

Here comes dad the preacher

"It's only through his will that we meet people, Fall in love, marry someone and have kids." He said. "The bond that he makes never break. Marriage isn't meant to be broken."

I frowned. Is this lecture taking a turn towards me??

"Marriage is sacred and for forever. There is no such thing as divorce in the holy book." He said and looked at me. "You two are having a kid." Dad started.

"Dad." I warned but he ignored me.

"That kid deserves to be raised in a happy holy home with two parents."

"Dad!" I warned again but he ignored me.

"Divorce isn't an option. You two are a family and family doesn't break." He stated.

My nostrils flared up and a wave of anger hit me. "Dad he's not family!" I yelled.

"Of course he is, Helena!" Dad yelled back. "He's your husband. Your lord on earth and you mus-"

I cut him off. "He sent the divorce papers this morning!" I said.

He glanced at Mom as to confirm if i was telling the truth or not. Did he think i was lying? "We'll tear them up. You will not sign them." He stated in his authoritative tone.

I rolled my eyes. "For fuck's sake, Dad-"

"Language, Helena." Mom said.

Oh now you choose to acknowledge me.

Dad turned to Dexter who had an uncomfortable look on his face. "Dexter, I don't know what my daughter did." He said.

I burried my face in my hands. This isn't happening!
