Mina's P.O.V.

I looked up at the trees as my new squad prepared to practice killing Titans. Haru, the boy who always called me pipsqueak, laughed as he used his 3D maneuvering device to reach the branches of the tree next to me.

"Afraid of heights, Pipsqueak?" He chuckled.

I raised my eyebrows and looked at Levi when he stood next to me.

"Ignore him. He's immature." He said.

I looked away and started running through the small forest. The others flew above me using their 3D maneuvering devices. Levi trailed close behind me.

"Titan!" Haru screamed.

"How the hell did it get pass the wall?" Another cadet yelled.

A 14-meter was a hundred feet in front of us. I easily jumped, planted my feet on a tree trunk, and launched myself into the air. I pulled out my blades, hooked my maneuvering device into the Titan's shoulder, and swung toward it. I spun as I got closer, and my blades slashed through the nape of the Titan's neck. It fell right as I landed on the ground, my device's wire sliding back into its case.

"Damn, Pipsqueak!" Haru barked.

The rest of my squad, including Captain Levi, gathered around me. I looked at the ground when they all started complimenting me. Levi stepped in front of me and caught my wrist. I hissed slightly, and I realized that it hurt even though he wasn't holding it tightly.

"You snapped your wrist at the last second." He said, sharply snapping my wrist to the side. "Even the best are flawed."

"I'm not the best, Captain. If I were I would've taken your place." I growled.

I turned, my cape snapping in his face, and walked away. Haru and a girl, Sakura, followed me.

"Wait up, Mina." Haru begged.

I turned on him. "What is it you want?"

He took a step back, taken by surprise. "Sakura and I were wondering if we could be in a trio with you."

"A trio with you two? Why would I want that? All you ever did was laugh at me and call me names while we trained! Now that I'm better than you, all you want is me to train you and some blockhead I don't even care about!"

"We were trying to be nice!" Sakura hissed.

"Oh yeah? I don't need your sympathy! I don't need any of you!"

I stalked away, anger boiling within my veins.

"No good bastards!" I growled, continuously punching my bedroom wall.

My knuckles were covered in blood. Sweat was dripping from my face. As soon as I punched the wall again, someone knocked on my door. I laid my hand on the wall, spreading my fingers, and pinched the bridge of my nose between my right thumb and index finger.

"Come in." I said.

The door opened, revealing Levi. He had a first aid kit in his hands. I sighed and stood up straight, dangling my arms by my sides.

"My room is next to yours. I can hear through the wall pretty well, and by the thudding noise, I'm guessing you were punching the hell out of it." He said.

"I don't need any medical attention, Captain. I'll be fine without it." I told him, walking to my desk.

"I'm not giving you a choice, rookie." He answered, walking to me.

By now, the blood on my knuckles was dry. The cold air stung the open wounds as Levi lifted my hand.

"You're incredible and very agile. It comes in handy being small, doesn't it?" He asked.

"For the record, I'm three inches shorter than you and weigh 95 pounds."

"You're still small."

I watched as he wrapped a bandage around my knuckles. He was careful while he held my hand still.

"Tomorrow, you and I are going to practice hand to hand combat while the others practice Titan killing." He muttered.

"That won't be handy for Titan killing, Captain."

"You're going to encounter more than Titans when you have this job."

I stared at him. He tucked the end of the bandage under the rest of it and moved on to my other hand.

"Captain, can I ask you a question?"

"You can call me Levi. What's your question?"

I looked at my hand. "Is it right if I hate having other people around me?"

He raised his eyebrows as he glanced at me. "Why do you have to hate people being around you?"

My hands started shaking slightly. He looked directly at me as a tear rolled down my cheek.
