Solitary Training

Mina's P.O.V.

It was getting extremely dark. I had stayed behind when my squad went to the barracks. The bandages Levi had put on my hands were peeling away as I punched the tree in front of me.

It wasn't until I was being lifted into the air did I hear the Titan's obnoxious growling. I stared at it while it looked at me with hunger in its eyes.

I sighed, relaxed my body, and pulled myself out of the Titan's grasp. It growled and tried to grab me with its other hand.

"Mina!" Haru screamed, running toward me.

"Stay back!" I ordered.

He ignored me and got as close as he could. The Titan lifted its leg and stomped on him. I screamed in horror at the sight of his crumpled body when the Titan took a step back.

Someone swung by in a quick motion and easily sliced the nape of the Titan's neck. I jumped and tumbled to the ground as the Titan fell behind me. I ran to Haru and got on my knees beside him. Blood covered most of his body, and it dripped from his mouth.

"H-Haru!" I cried.

He smiled, grabbed my hand, and mumbled something only I could hear. I stood up when the life in his eyes disappeared.

"Mina, are you alright?" Someone asked from behind me.

I turned to face Levi. His eyes shifted from me to Haru's body. I walked toward him, and he stared at me. I pushed him out of my way.

"Another useless death because of me." I growled, continuing to walk away from him and Haru's body.

When I woke up, there was a small patch resting on my desk, a note tucked under it. I grabbed the note and carefully lifted the patch.

Mina,

The note started with simply my name.

This patch belonged to Haru's jacket. Take good care of it.

Captain Levi Rivaille

I placed the note on my desk, got dressed, and took a few !minutes to gently sew the patch to the inside of my cape. I put my cape on, hooked on my 3D maneuvering device, and left my room.
