Amity's POV (warning child abuse, slurs and homophobia.)
I finish ringing out my hair, tying the front part back. Why would mother be angry at me, could she if heard about grom. No that's impossible unless my siblings were involved she wouldn't of cared.
"Hey mitts" my sister whispers, just behind the door frame. "Sorry about leaving you alone with mom."
"It's okay, there's no use in both of us getting in trouble." I sigh. "You didn't tell her anything, did you?"
She chuckles, "of course not, I'm not a total idiot."
"Okay" I hum, walking out of the bathroom. "I better get going"
Emira nods, looking a bit stressed out. I can't tell if it's for my sake or for hers.
"mother?" I asks knocking on the door to her study. "You wanted to see me?"
"Amity, come in."
I walk into her study standing in the middle of the room facing her desk. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
"Is it true that a human started at your school?"
Why is she talking about luz again, "yes" I nod.
"Hmm" she hums rolling a pen on her desk back and forth. "So how was yesterday?"
Yesterday, what happened yesterday? "Nothing really, why?"
"Do you serious not remember?" She asks, holding her pen still. "You had a dinner day with my friends son, dose that ring any bells?"
Shoot, I was stressed about asking luz to grom. I completely forgot. "I'm sorry, mother." I lower my head to apologize.
"You're sorry?" My mother asks slowly standing up. "You made our family look foolish, may I remind you that it's your job to provide a suitable heir. And in order to do that you need to meet people willing to marry you, not hang around with some worthless human girl."
I'm use to this, I'm use to my mother. But when ever it comes to luz, something inside of me just snaps. "She's not worthless, she sweet and silly and cares about people unlike you."
I fell my mothers cold hand hit against me face knocking me to the floor. "How dare you talk back to me?! I am your mother, I'm only trying to do what's best for you and the future of this family."
"Exactly" I roll my eyes. "Because you only care about your self image."
"My image" she chuckles, "you have no idea what I do for this family, without me you wouldn't have a roof over your head. But you wouldn't know that, now would you? since you refuse to met with any suitors, what are you a fag or something?"
I can feel my stomach turn when she uses that word. She preaches about being a family and whatever and then that's what she calls her daughter.
"Hmm, amity?" She asks, waiting for my response.
"No" I shake my head, "I'm sorry for my earlier behaviour, I was out of line." That's right, to her I have to be little miss perfect. Even if it's an act I can't let my mother catch on, or she could hurt luz. That's right that's me, little miss perfect.
"Tomorrow, you'll meet with Arthur descale. It was hard to get his parents to agree to meet you, so don't be late. Do you understand?"
"Yes, ma'am" I nod, squeezing my hands.
"You're dismisses." She gestures for me to leave, getting back to whatever she was doing before.
"Yes mother" I mutter, leaving the room. I'm screwed.
Third person POV
"Ales?" Ms. Blight calls, where a figure emerges from the shadows.
"Yes milady?"
"Follow her, if want boscha said is true. And amity is having a romantic relationship with this human girl I want you to tell me immediately."
"What will happen if the rumour is true?" Ales asks.
"If a cow is sick you must get rid of it before it infects the others. If amity is sick, then we need to fix here before it becomes unfixable or worse she infects the other children. Simple as that."
"I understand" ales nods, fading back into the shadows.
"Oh amity." Ms blight sighs. "What am I gonna do with you?"
