Amity's POV

"Thanks for walking me home" I smile, nervously rocking back and forth on my door step. This is usually the part of the date we're straight couples kiss.

"Well.." Luz mutters, looking just as awkward as me. "Goodnight"

"Luz, what" I grab onto her shoulder, we're she pulls me into a kiss.

"Sorry, I didn't know if we were supposed to do that or not"

"It's okay, I wasn't sure either" I apologize. "I better get inside"

"Yeah, wanna do this again tomorrow?" She asks

"I would love too" I smile, slowly backing away to the door as luz inches towards the woods."bye" I wave opening the door and sliding inside.

"That way amazing" I mutter covering my face and sliding down the door to the floor.

"Hey mittens" Emira says walking down stairs, "how was your day?"

I release my breath.

"that good huh, better of been since you missed another one of mom's meetings."

"That was today?" I ask

"Uh huh, and boy was she pissed. Apparently he was pretty high on you list of suitors."

"Don't say it like that, It makes me sound like a piece of meat she's trying to auction off."

"Amity Blight!!" My mother screams, "come to my office this instant!"

"Run" my sister mouths, gesturing me to leave. "I'll cover for you" she whispers.

"Thanks" I say, carefully opening the door, so mother won't hear me.

People say you shouldn't run from your problems, but I'm not ready to deal with that. What's the whole point of marrying for your legacy or whatever, I mean it only makes people unhappy. 50% of marriages already end in divorce, do we really need to raise that percentage?

"Watch it!" I spit, running into someone.

"Sorry" a boy responds, overing me a hand. "You're amity blight right?"

"Yeah, why?" I ask, getting the dirt off my skirt.

"Oh..um hi.. I'm Arthur descale. We were supposed to me up a few times but I kept skipping, I'm sorry."

"Oh" so this is the boy mother was telling me about. "It's okay, so was I"

"Well that makes things less awkward" he chuckles, scratching the back of his head. "So..family names, huh?"

"I'm sorry, but I'm really not interested-"

"No, no" he interrupts me, "neither am I, to be honest I don't even like girls."

"I don't really like boys" I whisper. We lock eyes forming a platonic form of friendship.

"Well, it was nice to meet you. But I better get going home" he waves walking off. I look down at my feet, I don't really wanted to deal with mother right now.

I walk through the forest, somehow stumbling my way back to the owl house.

"If you're looking for luz, she went to the store." I hear eda yell from the kitchen window.

"I'm sorry to bother you" I apologize, turning around.

"Wait kid" she lets out a sigh. "You're already here so why don't you come inside?"

"Okay" I nod

"Hoot hoot, hi there" the annoying house old says, who I hate more then anything.

"So kid, what brings you here at this hour?" Eda asks sitting on the couch, gesturing for me to join her.

"It's nothing" I mutter, sitting next to her.

"You know my parents use to be abscessed with me carrying on my family name too?" She asks, sipping what I assume to be some sort of alcohol.

"Really?" I ask

"Sure we're, I wasn't what you call lady like and kinda did what I wanted. So my parents put a lot of pressure in me to get married, since that was the only way they thought  I could be useful."

"Did you get married?"

"No, my parents disowned me after I got cursed." She says swirling around the liquid in her cup.

"I'm afraid of how my mother will react when she learns about me." I mutter. "I don't have any relieves around here, so if she kicks me out I have no where to go."

"That's not true" eda smiles "if something like that happens come here, I'm happy to have you."

"Thanks you" I smile.

"Amity, what are you doing here?" Luz asks walking in with king and a bunch of groceries bags.

"She's staying the night" eda says walking away. Before I get the Change to respond.

"Oh, wanna go up stairs then?"Luz asks talking my hand.

"Sure"
