Looking at the child who was looking up at him, Jiang MingYuan wanted to reach out his hand and touch him.
He got the report back just today. Even though he had prepared himself in advance, reading the result still made him feel at a loss.
He has a child; a child who had grown up somewhere that he had never seen before. The child was healthy and happy, as though he neither knew about or needed this father of his.
Jiang MingYuan looked at the child's artwork that he had somehow gotten from the kindergarten. There was only him and his mother in the drawing. He wasn't a part of it. He had forgotten how he felt at the time. When he came to, he was already on his way to the night market.
After he had calmed down, Jiang MingYuan regretted his rash behavior. He felt that perhaps he shouldn't have come over.
What was he going to say? Should he tell Cheng Huan that I know Jiang XingChen is my son and I am going to take him away from you or that I know he is my son and I am willing to marry you for my child?
Neither one was a good option.
For one, he was never a part of this mother and son's life over the years. As far as the child was concerned, he was but a stranger. As far as his mother was concerned, his role was similar to that of a sperm donor that she had an one-night stand with. He had no reason or the grounds to take the child away from her.
That being said, Jiang MingYuan couldn't bring himself up and marry a stranger just for the sake of providing the child with a complete family either. That would be a rash and irresponsible decision. Besides, even if he was willing to do just that, it didn't mean the other two parties involved would necessarily agree to it.
Jiang MingYuan thought a lot on his way there and countless times he almost asked the chauffeur to turn around and head back. But he was there in the end. Even his steps were full of hesitation. With each step, a different idea would come to his mind, and then he'd shot it down, and that'd happen over and over again.
That lasted all the way until he was standing in front of the booth and saw the child sitting by the door.
The night market was filled with pungent smells coming from all sorts of different types of food. One could no longer tell the real color of the floor as they were covered by grease and dirt. This was not a place that he'd been used to visiting. Yet his child was growing up just fine right here.
Jiang MingYuan couldn't control himself. He walked up to the child. He wanted to say something to him but stopped himself.
He was strange. He didn't want to scare the boy.
"Uncle. You are in my way."
He heard the kid say. His eyes were probably sore from staring at him for too long. He lifted his hand and rubbed his eyes after he said that to him.
This was the first time Jiang MingYuan looked at the child from up close. There were a lot of warm feelings flowing through him, mixed in with a sense of joy.
"I am sorry," he said and took a step aside. The light poured back over the area. He could see the dust on XingXing's face and XingXing could also see Jiang MingYuan's look.
XingXing finally found out what the uncle looked like. He was quite good looking.
This uncle was as pretty as the doll that his mother had just bought him and just a tad worse than his mother. As XingXing was thinking about it, he looked back down to finish up the moon that he was drawing and decided that he'd be a nice person for a change and forgive this uncle.
Jiang MingYuan didn't walk away but sat down next to him. He had on a well-trimmed suit; his shoes were shiny; and his hair impeccable. He was also wearing a watch that cost in the 6-digit range. His entire person did not fit into the night market.

Translator's rambling: Finally get to the point of why I picked this book for translation!! That it has a RATIONAL male lead for a change! His thought process was reasonable. That he can't just stake a claim on the child or fell in love with the female lead at first sight. He did not just start throwing obscene amounts of money at her and coddle her like she is a completely useless person. Personally, I find that very offensive unless, of course, the female lead wants an obscene amount of money thrown at her.
