Both storefronts were very well located with very good foot traffic. Either one would be good for a restaurant.
Cheng Huan was very excited when she saw them, but thinking about her own savings, most of her excitement went away.
"How much are the rest of these two locations?"
"$70,000."
Cheng Huan couldn't believe what she heard, "What did you just say?"
"$70,000 a month, same for both locations." Wang ChunJiang studied her look. "If you think this is too high..."
"No, no." Cheng Huan shook her hands. "Of course not."
She didn't feel that they were too expensive. Quite the contrary, their rent was too low!
Both locations that were shown to her were excellent locations; the type that everybody would fight over. When Cheng Huan was looking at them, she had expected Wang ChunJiang to give her a price of $200,000."
But he said 70,000 yuan?!
She was a bit dizzy from the pie that had hit her on her head and almost accepted it right away.* But her excitement was short lived. Once she had calmed down some, she became suspicious.
It wasn't so much that she looked down on herself, but it was simply impossible that storefronts like these would have a difficult time finding takers to a point that they were presented to her. And at such a low price at that.
Was this some sort of a scam?
She took a look at the management employee who was looking at her eagerly and her suspicion intensified.
She had heard about a lot of scams nowadays when it came to property rentals. Sometimes the renter would sublease it to another party with a specific lease term when in reality the lease with the real landlord was already up. When the time was up and the landlord came to take back the property, the one that presented you with the contract was already long gone.
The more Cheng Huan thought about it, the more she felt that this was likely the case. She felt very discouraged all of a sudden.
She forced a smile at Wang ChunJiang and said to him, "Let me think about it some more. I will get back to you later."
"Sure, sure. Just give me a call whenever you've made up your mind. My phone is on 24 hours a day." Wang ChunJiang was a bit disappointed that she didn't make her decision right then and there but he also didn't think that she could walk away from these two locations. He felt justified when he walked her out.
Walking out of the management company, Cheng Huan let out a long sigh.
"Mom." XingXing had remained quiet the entire time and finally asked after they had left, "Mom, when are we going to move to the new storefront?"
"Probably not anytime soon," said Cheng Huan as she let out another sigh.
"Why not?" XingXing didn't understand. "Are they not pretty?"
"No." Cheng Huan rubbed XingXing on his chin and wasn't sure how to explain to him that this might have been a scam. Thinking about it some more, she also didn't want to give up just like that so she recollected herself, picked up XingXing, and walked over to the bus station.
"Let's go take a look at the locations ourselves." She wanted to check the locations out herself.
Both locations were close by, just one to two stops from where they were. Cheng Huan took XingXing with her to Huirong Plaza first and headed straight up to the third floor.
The third and fourth floor of Huirong Plaza were all restaurants. It wasn't lunch time yet but there were already quite some people inside the restaurants.
Cheng Huan circled the floor once and found the "King of Hot Pot" place that the management company mentioned. The windows and door of the hot pot placed were shut tightly. It's antique-looking plaque was still there and looked to be quite new.
