Chapter 4
Avery
"Hey guys," I sat sitting in the table my friends and Asher's friends were sitting in. It has been a few days since Asher and I have kissed and we are in a good place. I do not know what we call our relationship but I am happy in it. I was still staying with him.
"So, how is it with him?" Mason asked and I smile. I have gotten close to his friends too.
"He's been amazing," I say turning to look at Asher who was paying for our ice cream we had finished just now. He was in his brown shorts and some sandals. His top body was uncovered and he looked hot in them.
I saw a few girls go up to him and they take pictures of him. I was jealous. What were they doing?
"I'm back," he said coming next to me and put his arm around my shoulder. I was still mad.
"Why were those girls taking pictures with you?" I ask and all of our friends looked nervous and scared.
"Oh, them? They wanted to see who would get the most number of pictures with strangers. They were having a contest with their other friends," he said and I smiled.
"Were you jealous?" he asked and I looked away. He laughed and kissed my cheek, slowly and I looked at him. He slowly kissed my sun-burnt nose and I laughed because he knew I loved it.
"I love it when you are jealous but you have nothing to fear about Rookie. No one is better than you," he said and I smiled looking away. He has started calling me Rookie because my last name was Brooke and I don't know the other reason he gave but I am fine with it.
"So, Asher I have been thinking about this, is this- whatever we are having right now a summer fling?" I ask as we walking with him as our friends went into the water. This thing has been killing me.
"No Avery, it is not. If it is I would not be giving you this," he said stopping in his tracks and I looked at him. He pulled out a ring and a chain with it and held it in his hand.
"This ring was something I always wore ever since I was 15. I believe it gave me good luck, so I am going to put this around your neck to show how much you mean to me," he said clasping the chain around my neck and I looked at it. It looked like a platinum ring and the chain looked pretty expensive too.
"I will never take this off. Thank you," I say and he nods. We played in the water for a while and we sat down to talk.
"Asher, I am leaving to go back to San Francisco in a few days," I say and he nods because he knew it too.
"And you stay in LA," I say and he looked at me confused at not knowing where I was taking this conversation to.
"I know that Rookie," he said and I looked away, watched the sunset in front of me.
"H-How are we going to continue this relationship then?" I ask because I knew that I would not be able to leave college for the next few semesters to go to live in LA.
"Avery, I will be lying if I say that it will be easy for us but I am sure we will make it work alright? I have a place in San Francisco, I can live there or we can fly and try the long distance," he said and I was bitter.
"I do not want to be away from you," I say acting like a kid.
"Then we will not be. I promise, I will figure something out. Also I will never be able to replace you," he said and I believed him. The thought of not being in his arms, not being called Rookie, of not being kissed and not seeing him killed me. I could not stay away from him at all.

Asher
I wasn't lying when I said that I will figure something out. Just the thought of not being to see her goofy smile, her glistering blue eyes, her messy bun, to taste her lips, not being able to touch her kills me.
I have never wanted someone more in my entire life and I have always been scared of commitments. But with, I am ready to do anything if it makes her happy.
I want to tell her everything about my life. I want to talk about our future together but I fear that will be ruined if I do the first one. The ring I gave her, I believe it made me what I am today because I have had it ever since I achieved those things.
I turn to look at her and she's running around with her friends in the water and she looks so unrealistically beautiful in her blue swimwear. Sometimes I think to myself, how and why did she fall for me?
It has been more than a week since I first met her when I came here with my friends as a break from working and I do not regret it.
"What are you looking at?" Lucas asked sitting next to me.
"My girl," I said and he laughed.
"I can't believe that you are smittened my bro. I never thought you would," he said punching my shoulder and I agree with him. I never thought I would too.
"Have you told her yet?" Lucas asked and I shake my head.
"It will destroy us," I said looking at the sand.
"No, no Bro, if you do, then you can at least fix it now, if she finds it on her own, it will be beyond repair. I am telling you," he says and I knew it but I cannot tell it to her. I did not have enough guts in me to do so.
"Save me Asher," I heard Avery say as she ran behind me and hid just as William ran and accidently threw the water he was holding in his hand for Avery on me. I glared at William and he looked shocked too. Just then, I felt a gallon of salty and cold sea water being poured on me and I turned around.
"I am so sorry, I just had to do it," Avery said in between her laughs. She looked so adorable that I could not get mad at her. I picked her up in my arms without saying anything and she knew what I was about to do.
"Asher, no, no, no," she screamed and we both went for a dip together in the sea and I brought her up with me. It looked like as if she had swallowed some water because she was laughing but she kept giggling so she was fine.
"I hate you," she said laughing and I kissed her just as she pulled me down again and now, I was submerged. She was strong, I have to admit.
"I hate you too," I say wiping the water off of my face and she kissed me. We came out of the water, still laughing and she jumped on everyone with her soaking wet body, getting them wet too. They attacked her with water just as she ran and hid behind me. I saw taller and broader than her so I acted like her shield and took the water instead of her.
"Thank you my big guy," she said and that smile she had on her face was enough for me to bring her anything she asked for. I kissed her forehead. What did I actually do to deserve her love?
