Chapter 30
Avery
"Liam, you never told me you were getting back together with her," I say looking straight into his eyes.
"I didn't know it either Rookie. It just happened," he says shrugging.
"Things like this just don't happen Liam. You do it because you feel like it. It's just- you are now engaged," I say raising my voice at the beginning but then the volume reduces as the pain sinks in.
"I thought-," I say but I stop myself.
"I know that Avery. I love you and I always will but I can't wait for you forever so that you can come back," he says and now I was mad.
"You are the reason I lost faith in love. And now you say you couldn't wait for me?" I say moving back and rest my hands over my hips.
"We had a talk and we confessed our love for one another. You said that you loved me and you will wait for me and win back my trust and faith in love and now you say this? You promised to me Liam," I say.
"You know what Liam, I was stupid for hoping all this while that we will have a future together while you ran away from your mistakes and got engaged to her," I say and he takes out his cigarette and lights it up.
"What are you doing?" I ask furiously and snatch it from his hand.
"I am smoking. What else am I doing?" he asks surprised.
"You promised me that you won't. You have been doing good for 4 months. Why now?" I ask.
"Because Hailey let's me and she loves me even if I smoke," he says and I was hurt.
"I- I have nothing to say to you Liam. Just- you have disappointed me and the thought I had of you and the Ash I fell in love with," I say handing his cigarette back to him and walk away from him.
I had come to congratulate them on their engagement but he hurt me. But I was the better person so I decided to accept their invitation for their engagement party so I went back to my hotel room to get ready. I was staying in a hotel because I was in Miami and I didn't have a house here.
One of the dresses I wanted had arrived and my stylist brought it for me. She calls in my makeup and hair artist to get me ready as I sat there. My hair was pulled into a messy bun and some floral diamond pins were placed in my hair.
My makeup was kept natural but my lips were red. I wore simple stud earrings and I get into my dress and wear my heels. I look in the mirror and I liked what I saw. I was dressed in a strapless tulle ball gown with plunging neckline, floral embroidery and Velvet sash at natural waist and the dress was lined with silk. The dress was completely in black with the top being a strapless corset and I had some huge flowers of different colors on the skirt.
"Thank you Riley and Kelly," I say thanking the both of them and they smile and nod. I lock my door behind me and go to the lobby where a car was waiting for me and I sat in it and it took me to the house Liam and Hailey had purchased.
My security opens the door for me and arranges my dress behind me as I get down of my car. The house was completely decorated and I could hear music coming from within. The place was heavily guarded and I assumed it was because there were celebrities in there as I've heard.
The press was waiting for us and started snapping pictures of me as I walk towards their house and they kept shouting and asking me things but I ignored them and walked inside through a gate through which they weren't allowed.
I immediately see so many people I know in there and they all smile at me as I walk towards them. I think they knew how hard it must be for me to even come here and I realized I was the only one in such a heavy dress.
"Hey," someone says and I turn around to find Jacob standing there. Jacob was Hailey's older step brother and the both of us were friends when Hailey and I were friends. Jacob was a model too. Jacob was 25 years old, 3 years older than me.
"Jacob," I say and he smiles widely. He was dressed in an all black suit with unbuttoned black shirt till his mid chest and he looked amazing. I hugged him and he smelled amazing too.
"Oh it's so glad to see someone that doesn't get on my nerves here," he says and I laugh.
"Come on. They aren't that bad," I say referring to Liam and Hailey and he gave me a look that asked me if I was kidding.
"Oh Avery, they are. Liam looked so happy and he was getting better when he was with you but now with Hailey, he is just become the bad person he was when you left him. She brings out the worst in him and she thinks that it's good for him. And all she does is talk about him and how he's happier with her," he says and I pat in arm.
"I'm glad to see you too Jacob," I say and he nods. There were some photographers taking pictures and Jacob and I posed for it. We were matching too, coincidently.
Soon Hailey and Liam came out. Hailey was already dressed in a dress resembling a wedding dress. Her dress was a white scuba material with a bandeau neckline, a thigh-high split and a zip fastening on the back. And Liam on the other side was dressed in a suit.
Drinks were served and food was too. Jacob and I spent the entire time together and we were happy with one another. I liked him and he was a nice guy.
"I seem so out of place. I am the only one dressed so fancy," I whisper to Jacob and he turns around.
"No you don't. You look beautiful and by far the most beautiful woman in this party and world," he says and I laugh slightly but I see that he was serious. I look into his icy blue eyes and he looked so good under the light like that.
His light hair was set messily like the way he likes, his skin looked radiant and warm, his features looked so strong and handsome and I suddenly became aware of his height that he was taller than me by 9 inches and that he had an athlete body and that his muscles were seen through his shirt.
I never realized that I was attracted to him, maybe because I was with Liam or that he was Hailey's brother but now I could feel the connection between us and it was undeniable.
He leans in and I lean in too and soon our lips connected and there were butterflies in my stomach. I really did like him. He seemed to like me too.
"Avery, I don't want to move things too fast and I know you don't want to either so should we stop seeing others and just focus on us?" he asks and I nod. We kiss once more and go for another till someone interrupted us.
"Um, Avery can I speak to you?" Hailey says and I just look at her.
"You can speak in front of me," Jacob says staring at his sister. He didn't like her too.
"Um, alright. So Avery, as you know Liam and I are engaged," she says and I scoff.
"As if you haven't told enough to the world," I say and she rolls her eyes.
"I am going to let that slide. And you and him are exes. You are his past and I am his present so I don't want you to hang out with us anymore," she says and I laugh.
"Hang out with you? No thanks and I wasn't planning on it," I say.
"Listen Hailey, Avery is with me and we both are seeing each other, and I am a part of our family so of course she will be seen with me. So suck it up and don't feel threatened by her," Jacob says slipping his hand on my back and Hailey was shocked.
"You are just dating my brother to get back at me right?" Hailey says and I shake my head.
"I would never fall so low to your level. I don't play with people's heart just for getting back at someone and Jacob and I really like each other. Enjoy your party," I say and we walk off. I stayed for a little while talking to everyone and decided to leave.
As we walk outside, I see all the cameras flashing again but Jacob helped me get into my car. We decided to leave together and spend the night at my place. The press got enough pictures of us together to make a headline tomorrow but I didn't care.
I was happy now with Jacob.
