Chapter 7

Hagrid's Dragon and Detention

After Hermione giving us stacks of books to read we finally figured out what fluffy was guarding the 'philosophers stone'  the four of us decided to sneak out and go to see Hagrid tonight, as the clock struck 10 pm I pushed myself from my bed glancing around the room to see Aurelia sitting on her bed reading a potions book I rubbed my neck sheepishly "Cover for me?" I asked and she nodded waving her hands towards the door and I smiled gratefully combing my fingers through my hair standing up I put my shoes on and wrapped my winter coat around my shoulders finishing off with my green and silver scarf. I said goodbye to Aurelia and unlocked the door quietly tiptoeing through the Slytherin common room. I made my way towards the Libary where I would meet the trio. 

They came around the corner and I grinned at them and we ran towards Hagrids hut knocking on his door, "not to be rude but I'm in no mood to entertain tonight" he announced closing the door "we know about the philosophers stone" we all answered quickly and he opened the door "oh" he sighed letting us in "Snape's trying to steal the stone!" Harry insisted to Hagrid, "as I already told you he is one of the teachers protecting it" Hagrid looked at us clearly annoyed "anyway no one knows how to get by fluffy except me and dumbledore" he said proudly "oh I shouldn't have told you that" he groaned walking towards the fireplace and pulling out an egg we all looked at him confused "what is that?" Hermione questioned, "its an erm it's a-" Hagrid began "its a dragon egg, my brother works with these in Romania!" Ron exclaimed and the egg began to hatch. "awh look at Norbet he knows his mummy so he does!" Hagrid grinned and the dragon blew fire at his beard the smell of burnt hair filling my senses and I looked disgusted "whos that?" hagrid questioned pointing at the window "Malfoy" I hissed and we all stood up running back towards the school. Mrs McGonagall appeared in her nightgown, Draco standing behind her a smug look on his face. "Good evening" she glanced around at the four of us sheer disappointment on her features "Nothing, I repeat, nothing gives a student the right to walk about the school at night. Therefore, as punishment for your actions, 50 points will be taken." she spoke sternly "50?!" Harry's eyes widened "each" Mrs McGonagall spoke and I gasped. "And to ensure it doesn't happen again, all five of you will receive a detention." she finished. " Excuse me, Professor. Perhaps I heard you wrong. I thought you said...' the five of us." Draco questioned peering up at the older lady. She looked down at the boy who no longer wore a smug look "No, you heard me correctly, Mr Malfoy. You see, as honourable as your intentions were, you too were out of bed after hours. You will serve detention with your classmates" she said to the boy and I smiled good enough for him she beckoned us off to our common rooms and I ran off. As I entered Aurelia was asleep and I smiled climbing into bed. 

The next day we had detention, and we were walking towards Hagrid's hut Flitch began to speak "A pity they let the old punishments die. There was time detention would find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons. God, I miss the screaming.  You'll be serving detention with Hagrid tonight. He's got a little job to do inside the dark forest" "oh shut up you deranged psycho" I spoke firmly glaring up at the weird man and he shut up for the rest of the walk. Hagrid appeared a crossbow in hand and he sniffled looking at us all sadly. "A sorry lot this, Hagrid. Oh, good God, man, you're not still on about that bloody dragon, are you?" Flitch snapped and hagrid sniffed sadly again beginning to speak to the five of us "Norbert's gone. Dumbledore sent him off to Romania to live in a colony." I glared at Draco and he shuddered under my gaze "Well that's good isn't it? he'll be with his own kind" Hermione piped up trying to lighten the mood, "Yeah, but what if he don't like Romania? What if the other dragons are mean to him? He's only a baby, after all." Hagrid wailed and Flitch rolled his eyes, " Oh, for God's sake, pull yourself together, man. You're going into the forest, after all. Got to have your wits about you." He spoke. Draco piped up fear in his eyes "The forest? I thought that was a joke! We can't go in there. Students aren't allowed. And there are.....werewolves!" he exclaimed his voice cracking, "There's more than werewolves in those trees, lad. You can be sure of that" Flitch replied and took off towards the castle, Draco looked as if he was about to shit himself and I stifled a laugh. 

We walked through the forest and Hagrid suddenly stopped bending over he ran his fingers through a silver stain on the floor "what's that?" I questioned "what we're here for. See that? That's unicorn's blood, that is. I found one dead a few weeks ago. Now, this one's been injured badly by something.  So, it's our job to find the poor beast. Ron, Hermione, you'll come with me." he replied and Hermione and Ron nodded. "(Name) you will go with Harry and Draco" he finished and I nodded and began to walk off "well if that is the case then I get fang" Draco challenged and Hagrid turned to face him "of course but just so you know he's a coward" We all looked at fang who was whimpering and Draco groaned. As we walked through the forest my arm linked with Harry's Draco spoke again "You wait till my father hears about this. This is a servant's job." He complained, "If I didn't know any better I would think you're scared" Harry retorted and Draco scoffed "Scared, Potter?! Did you hear that? Come on, Fang. Scared." He continued walking and I laughed as we came to a clearing I unlinked mine and Harry's arm as Fang began to growl "what is it boy" I questioned the dog and I looked the unicorn laid dead on the floor a figure hunched over it and I shrieked along with Draco who grabbed my wrist and began running "Draco! Draco Wait what about Harry?" I shouted Draco ignored me and continued running screaming for help we stopped when Hagrid and the other two came running towards us "cloaked man... harry... unicorn... blood... dead" I panted out and I ran back towards where we left harry the others in tow. We returned to the clearing where Harry stood speaking to a centaur "Harry!" Hermione gasped "Hello there, Firenze. I see you've met our young Mr Potter. You all right there, Harry? " Hagrid questioned and Harry nodded, " Harry Potter, this is where I leave you. You're safe now. Good luck." Firenze spoke leaving us staring at the dead unicorn.
