I was definitely nervous about my conversation with Mya. I didn't know if she would reject me, or think that I am absolutely insane, which I couldn't entirely blame her if she did. Monroe pulled up to my driveway, and I took a sigh of anticipation before leaning over the middle console to kiss him.
"Call me after you talk to her, okay?" He said concerned. I looked into his gray eyes and smiled at how he worried he is about me. I hated it, but It's been a while since I've seen this kind of care from anyone.
"Alright." I grabbed my things and opened the car door, making my way up the driveway.
He stayed in the driveway until he saw me make my way inside. When I walked in Mya and Raymond were sitting at the dining room table. Her long honey brown hair hung around her face and fell down her back. I felt my stomach tense up.
"Seven, you've met Mya." Raymond smiled. Mya faintly smiled at me and I could see the confusion in her eyes as to what she was even doing here.
"Hey Mya." I smiled awkwardly.
"Hey." She responded flatly looking at me with her brown eyes. She is beautiful, but in an edgy kind of way. She had scars on her upper arms and down her chest, however her face is effortlessly youthful.
"So I know you're probably confused as to why you're here," I said putting my back pack down.
"A little." She murmured.
"I'd really like to talk to you, in private if that's okay." I said looking at Raymond. There was a pause as they looked at each other. Raymond then sighed. "Alright. I'll be right outside if you need me." He said before standing up. Mya shifted in her seat and looked back at me as I sat down at the dining table directly across from her.
"So, i'm sure you know, as everyone seems to, that i'm Monroe's mate." I said really not knowing where to start.
"Yeah. I could smell him on you from a mile away, but I'm confused as to what that has to do with me?" She said, but showed no hint of amusement on her face. This may be even harder than I anticipated.
"Good question. Well, im also of Haitian witch blood line and they had a message for me, about you." I sighed realizing how insane I sounded. Her brows furrowed in confusion.
"What did they say?"
"I am supposed to mend the relationship between the wolves and vampires, and you are supposed to a key in it that will help me." I said bluntly not knowing how else to meander around the issue at hand.
"Me?" She scoffed, "What do I have to do with that?"
"You are pregnant with a hybrid are you not? By Monroe's cousin?" Her eyes widened and she suddenly went pale. I am really hoping she doesn't jump across this table to maul me now that she knows I know her secret, but this is the only way.
"Does Raymond k-know?" She stuttered looking towards the back door that Raymond walked out of.
"No. I would never tell anyone your business like that, but it gives me reason to suspect you would help me, in order to protect the baby." I said sternly. She looked at me for a second studying my face before suddenly softening up to me. Her aura went from dark and guarded to being slightly more accepting, but it still wasn't enough to convince me that she would help.
"Thank you." She murmured.
"Your family would be really upset with you, wouldn't they? That's why you haven't told anyone?"
"You have no idea." She sighed placing her head to her hands, "This rivalry goes back centuries Seven. The witches weren't the only ones being burned at the stake." She sighed loudly.
"Listen. I promise that I will do everything in my power to protect you and your baby, but I need you to cooperate with me. You are proof vampires and wolves can not only be civil, but reproduce. The hybrids are a dying breed, and above all else, wolves and vampires are killing eachother over a rivalry that is centuries old. Our children do not need to live with these burdens." I explained. Mya nodded her head agreeing with what I was saying.
"How can I even help you though? I'm soon going to be the black sheep of my entire pack, and a disappointment to all wolves in general." She sighed not making eye contact with me.
"I still have to make a game plan, but Monroe's family is helping me with that part, they know the Elites better than I do, but I really need insight about your family, because at this point in time I don't even know where to begin."
"I do not, trust Monroe's family Seven. I trust you for some reason, which quite frankly I'm confused as to why I do, but I do not trust them. I do not want any Cittadino's around me or my child." She said harshly.
"Mya. Berenice is Monroe's grandmother and she needs you to help me. I need you to help me. I know it's hard being a black sheep. Trust me, but think about your child. I give you my word, the Cittadino's do not want to harm you, You're carrying the baby of a Cittadino." I pleaded. She looked at me and shook her head in denial.
"Tell that to my dead brother who was killed for a crime he didn't even commit." She said with no expression. "Vampires and Wolves have not gotten along since before the 1700s when they were constantly trespassing to hunt on our land, leaving packs to starve. They feel they are entitled to whatever the want, even if it doesn't belong to them." Tears slowly started to well in her eyes. I'm starting to think she isn't talking about the rivalry and is referring to something personal.
I sighed in response."I don't know what crime you are referring to, but what I do know is all of this tension is leading vampires and wolves to turn on each other over a loyalty to Elites who don't give a fuck about any of you. They care about their reputation, you can't possibly judge one vampire for the actions of other vampires that lived thousands of years ago. If anything some of those vampires are still alive and they are the ones who should be held responsible for their actions. You don't think that it hurts me knowing vampires killed and burned and enslaved witches? Well it does, but i'm still in love with a vampire." I paused as I just admitted that I love him.. Did I really just say that? I swallowed before continuing.
"Nobody is perfect, not even immortals, and death is unacceptable, but there's a lot of misunderstanding on both sides and trust me, im in danger myself trying to complete this destiny my ancestors and his ancestors are asking of me-"
"Then why do it? You're a human. You have your whole life ahead of you but you want to stick your nose in the lives of us immortals. It's not as pretty as you think. Vampires are the enemy to us." She said cutting me off.
"Oh. I know nothing about this is glamorous, but newsflash Mya, if you didn't know, the human world isn't pretty either. I didn't exactly request that the man I was destined to be with would be a vampire. I wanted a successful man, human preferably, with a house and dogs. You say vampires are the enemy yet you carry the offspring of one. I didn't want to be surrounded by blood and historical heartache, but here I am. Pain comes to me like a magnet, and I can't let down his family or mine. So either you're in or you're out."
She looked at me thinking of what to say before coming up with nothing, "I did fall in love with a vampire, A Cittadino, and it was a mistake. I love him, but I told him we can't be together, and now he wants to take our child from me."
I sighed feeling like I had gotten no where.
"I'll think about this, but right now it's too much." She said getting up and walking out of the door. I nodded my head in defeat as she got up and walked out of the door.
