I opened my eyes as a dim glow coming from the balcony lit the room. I looked at the high ceilings forgetting that I was in Nebraska now.
It was Sunday, and I started school tomorrow. The nervousness still hasn't subsided, but I'm trying my best to wave it off and ignore it.
I walked to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I took my hair out of the messy bun it was in before turning on the shower and stepping in. The water pressure was perfect as it relaxed my whole body.
When I got out of the shower I looked into the mirror at my naked face examining every tiny faint freckle just on top of my nose. I looked at my big doe green eyes. I tried to pin point what people at this school would bully me about. I looked at my body. My waist was curvy but I had big legs which was always an insecurity of mine. My round face. High cheek bones. I sighed. Maybe looking in the mirror wasn't a good idea. I brushed my teeth and did my skin care routine. Then grabbed some gray leggings, my off brand ugg boots, and a white long sleeve t-shirt. Then headed down stairs.
The smell of bacon hit my nose as I walked through the foyer.
Aunt Dana was standing against the bar looking at envelopes. Her short blonde hair was pulled back into a low pony tail, she was wearing skinny jeans and a crocheted sweater.
"Hey hunny! Hurry up and eat your breakfast so we can head to the mall. You aren't gonna last a day in them little old leggings and long sleeves. It's cold up here!"
It was 11:25 AM, so she already ate without me. I saw my plate of food on the bar which had eggs and bacon. I usually didn't eat in the mornings but I've never been catered to like this, so I was taking advantage of it.
I ate my food then grabbed my wallet and phone and shoved them into my cardigan wallet.
"Ready?" Aunt Dana said grabbing her purse and car keys, that hung on a key holder beside two other pairs of keys. We walked through the laundry room which led to another door. Through that door revealed the garage with a black Camero, Her usual white Lexus, and a gray Toyota corolla.
"The Toyota is Kilians but he skipped a couple of his morning classes due to partying so he's grounded from it. These two are mine though." She beamed. We got into her Lexus and she started to drive.
"You're going to love your school! I'm so excited you're here."
She was so happy in the mornings, and in general. Must be nice.
"Yeah I hope so." I replied looking out of the window.
"You're going to make great friends, the teachers are wonderful and-"
She was going on and on and my mind started to wonder tuning her out. I thought about what I would wear. What would the kids be like? Would I get lost on my first day? Probably.
We turned into the city where all the strip malls and food places were and my mind came back to reality.
"Okay you're going to need jackets, more long sleeves, do you need shoes? I like your boots but you can't only wear boots, ugh I've never had a daughter before this is stressful-"
"Aunt Dana it'll be okay." I laughed cutting her off. She talks a lot which was the opposite of me. I'm the doesn't speak unless spoken to type.
I picked out a black NorthFace rain coat, a longer black trench style looking coat, and a couple knitted cardigans in various colors.
I already had jeans and leggings and t-shirts, but aunt Dana insisted I pick out more long sleeve options. So I grabbed some of those too. Mentally I was adding up the prices, hesitant to grab any item at all, but she didn't have a care in the world when it came to money it seemed like.
