The electric clock on my bedside table started to sound. I groaned and rubbed my eyes wishing I could sleep another three hours. I couldn't though because today is my first day of school. I walked to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. Then I washed my face before walking to my closet and grabbing the outfit I picked out yesterday.
I looked in the mirror and added mascara to my long eyelashes. My hair was still in last night's braid so I took it out leaving loose waves down my chest. I grabbed my black cardigan and sprayed some perfume on my wrist that aunt Dana had bought for me yesterday.
I picked up my backpack throwing it over my shoulder and headed down stairs to find Raymond making coffee.
"Goodmorning." He smiled.
"Hey raymond"
"Coffee?" He asked pointing towards the maker.
"I don't really drink coffee." I responded.
He nodded his head "I see, I don't know how you function this early without it."
I laughed, "I guess I'm just lucky."
My aunt Dana walked into the room smiling at me with her robe on. "Oh the days of carpooling. How I missed it. It's senior year!" She beamed. I don't know how anyone could be this happy, this early.
The sky was gray and cloudy. Nothing new. I thought about my mother and what she was doing, probably drinking, but I thought she would at least attempt to call me. It's my first day after all.. I waved off that feeling reminding myself I can't get worked up over her. This is my new life now.
We got into the Lexus and headed to school. My chest still had this horrible anxious feeling in it that would not subside. I was just ready to get it over with.
We pulled up to the school building that had a big stone sign that said Courtside Heights Highschool, right out front. I exhaled deeply. There were kids all around the front, hanging around the parking lot, the court yard. It didn't look segregated as the movies make it out to be where the jocks and cheerleaders were in one group and nerds and band geeks were on the other side. It was a huge medley of teens.
"You want me to drop you off up front?" Aunt Dana asked.
"Oh God no, the back is fine." Most seniors have a car, I don't want to already be singled out.
She pulled around the back of the parking lot where I saw a black matte 1971 Mustang Coupe. Beside that car was a bright cherry red Camero. I got out of my aunts Lexus, and waved to her as she pulled off. I stopped to take a few breaths. I guess, my first goal should be to find the guidance counselor. I started to walk through the parking lot when I saw someone open the door to the Mustang.
A very tall, definitely over 6 feet, fair skinned guy stepped out. He had messy black hair that wasn't nor short. He was wearing sunglasses so I couldn't see his facial features other than his incredibly sharp jaw line.
I was taken aback by his beauty. I continued walking towards the building as he shut the door to his car. I couldn't tell if he was looking at me, or if it was something else behind me. I looked down even though his presence and appearance was captivating for some reason. It's almost as if I wanted to keep staring, like a magnet was pulling me to him. It's quite frightening honestly.
I waved it off and continued walking. As I passed up his car he leaned against it. He definitely was staring at me this time. He didn't smile, he just stared like he saw a ghost. My heartbeat accelerated and I couldnt understand why. I never cared about men, nor have I ever felt a yearning need for a boyfriend or a relationship. My parents ruined that for me. He, however, was hard to look away from.
I continued to watch the building as I passed him up. I fell into temptation as I turned back one last time to see that he was no longer looking at me. Two other guys, similar in height climbed out of the red Camero. One was a tall light haired brunette, while the other was a dirty blonde. I didn't get a good look at them, God forbid he catches me staring again.
I made my way to the building and opened the glass doors. I saw an office immediately and headed to the desk.
"Can I help you?" The receptionist asked.
"Yeah, um, I'm new here and I need to figure out my schedule." I said twisting the ring on my finger awkwardly.
"What's your name ?" She asked bluntly.
"Seven Knight." I immediately felt a cold wind hit my back that felt colder than the outside breeze. I turned my head to see him leaning against the wall. The two guys were with him and now I could see they also had very fair skin. The brunette had big brown eyes while the blonde had a light hazel. They were also breathtakingly beautiful. I had never seen humans look so perfectly put together. They were captivating however it was kind of unsettling that anyone could be that beautiful.
His eyes met mine now that he took his shades off. He was even prettier. His eyes were a bright crystal gray that burned when they made eye contact with mine. It was almost hypnotic.
"How do you spell that?" The receptionist snapped cutting me out of my thoughts.
"Uh, like the number." I answered.
"Hmm." She muttered clearly saying, without saying, that she had never heard of that name before.
I continued to twist my ring around as I felt his stare still burning a whole through the back of my body.
"I'm getting your schedule printed for you right now just have a seat on the bench." I turned around trying to ignore his piercing eyes. I sat on the bench next to the other two guys who were standing.
"Cittadino. What do you need?" The receptionist called to him.
"Awe shirley, I thought we were on a first name basis?" He frowned sarcastically running a hand through his jet black hair.
"What do you need." She spat again.
"Well you see, I have an issue with my schedule." He answered. His voice was like velvet, deep, but also smooth.
"There's an issue or you just don't like your classes?" She interrogated rolling her eyes.
"I have Mr. Brooks first period and he just dampers my mood, so maybe you can work your little secretary fingers and fix that for me." He said as smiled keeping his stare fixated on hers.
"Monroe. Leave the office." She rolled her eyes.
"Fine, but dare I ask exactly what your job is? What is the point of this being called 'Student Services' if you can't accommodate your students, this should be called the pain in my a-"
"Don't finish that sentence Cittadino unless you want a detention on the first day." An older man said walking out of his office with a cup of coffee.
Monroe. I thought. That's such an unique name. I had never heard it, other than Marylin Monroe, of course.
He rolled his eyes, "As you wish, it was so good seeing all of you again, I cant wait for this year." The two guys behind him laughed as they headed out the door.
"Knight, your schedule." Shriley called. I walked up and grabbed the sheet of paper she handed me and scanned my schedule. The bell rang.
First period. Mr. Brooks. I sighed. Of course.
