He looked only at Hermione and Harry.
"Expelliarmus!" he shouted in a croaky voice. Their wands shot out of their hands, and Sirius caught them in one hand. His eyes were fixed on Harry.
"I thought you'd come to help your friend," he said hoarsely. I watched him curiously. This mad man was my dad. "Your father would have done the same for me. Brave of you, not to run for a teacher. I'm grateful...it will make things so much easier..."
I watched Harry carefully. I knew that those words about his father were enough to provoke him. And I was right - he rushed forward, but I stepped in front of him.
"Hold your horses," I told him. He opened his mouth to no doubt say a rude contort, but Ron was already speaking. I grabbed Harry's arm so he wouldn't break free, and Hermione held his other arm.
"If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" Ron said, standing up from the bed. His face looked fierce and cruel, but his leg was bent out of shape and his skin had paled considerably.
"Lie down. You'll just damage your leg more," Sirius told Ron in a quiet tone. Ron repeated himself, and Sirius grinned. "There will only be one murder tonight,"
"Why's that? Didn't care last time, did you?! Didn't mind slaughtering all of those Muggles to get at Pettigrew...what's the matter? Gone soft in Azkaban?" Harry paused, and Hermione and I pleaded with him to stop. But he didn't. "HE KILLED MY MUM AND DAD!"
He tore forward and broke free of both mine and Hermione's hands. Harry launched himself at his godfather, and Black didn't even raise his wand. Harry's fist smacked into Sirius's face, and they fell over each other. They were full on fighting. Everyone was yelling and screaming. I watched in horror as Harry forgot about Sirius's free hand. The older man placed his hand around Harry's throat, and began to choke him. Harry's face reddened as his breath was cut off. I stepped forward, tears brimming in my eyes.
"STOP!" I yelled, with such aggression that I even surprised myself. "Dad, stop."
Sirius paused. He pushed Harry off him. His face softened considerably as he looked at me.
"Miranda," he breathed. I couldn't say anything; my throat was blocked up. I'd called him Dad. I called a mad stranger Dad. Sirius held my gaze for a long time, and I couldn't do anything but stare back at him. Meanwhile, Harry was collecting himself. He snatched up his wand, making his way towards Sirius. Crookshanks suddenly sprang forward and sunk her claws into Harry's arm. My gaze broke, and I stepped back as Harry kicked the cat away, advancing on Sirius.
"Are you going to kill me, Harry?" he asked, leaning back casually as he looked away from me.
"You killed my parents," Harry said in reply. Sirius looked up at him, his eyes sad.
"I don't deny it...but if you knew the whole story -"
"Whole story?" Harry repeated. "You sold them to Voldemort, that's all I need to know!"
"You have to listen to me!" Sirius pleaded, a note of urgency in his voice. "You'll regret it if you don't...you don't understand...."
"I understand a lot better than you think," Harry snarled. "You never heard her, did you? My mum...trying to stop Voldemort killing me...and you did it...you did it!" Harry positioned his wand over his godfather's heart, but something was already there. Crookshanks. He was sitting contentedly on Sirius Black's heart, protecting him. But looking at Harry's face, I knew that he wouldn't mind killing the cat too. Hermione sobbed in the background, but Ginny, Daniel, and Ron were so quiet, I could almost believe that they weren't there. Hermione lifted her head all of a sudden. She'd heard something. I listened too, and soon I could also hear muffled footsteps.
