Two weeks until school started, and I was itching to go to Diagon Alley. I had so desperately wanted a wand, a cauldron, notebooks for gods sake.

I had already packed my luggage, clothes and such. My mother gave me a list of decorating spells to use on my dorm room, which would be a single, my mother informed me. Now, I'm not sure if my mother called in a favor for that to happen or not, but either way, I was happy to have my own room.

When the day arrived, I was ecstatic. Ethan brought me shopping, because mother was locked away in the study. We started at the book store, where I got my textbooks for my first year. Next, I had my robes fitted for me at the tailor shop. Three plain black robes, my pointed hat (rather eccentric), a pair of protective gloves, and a black winter coat.

Next, a part I had been most excited for, my wand. Mine had a phoenix feather at its core, made of beech wood. It was about 11 inches long, strong and durable. I loved it.

Afterwards, we picked up a cauldron, and Ethan had to replace his. Last year, it blew up. At the same shop, I bought my first set of glass phials. They were gorgeous, and had small etchings at the top of little birds. I loved birds.

We were walking by the familiar store, when I grabbed Ethan's sleeve, bringing him to a halt. "I wanna pet."

"Y/N, we have a family owl. You love Lemon." Lemon had been our family own for some time, the name was give to to her based off of her yellow, lemon shaped eyes.

"Ethan I wanna cat." He looked surprised.

"Uhm... you're a dog person..."

"But I'm gonna be alone at school, and who knows if I'll make friends, and Megan is gonna be with mom at home, so I think I should get a cuddly cat." Meagan, our dog, was a pitbull mix. A rather large, but sleepy dog.

Ethan rolled his eyes. "We can look."

I brought him inside. He reminded me that we needed food for Lemon, and wandered off and away from me. The store was a series of small cages, some open with nothing inside. In the back, there was a small pen of kittens. When I got there, I saw a familiar look of blonde hair.

"Draco?"

He smiled when he saw me, but only for a felling moment, before taking the kitten he was holding and placing it back in the container with haste. I forgot about his inflated ego. I also hadn't seen him in a year, and he looked... handsome. Well, handsome for a Malfoy.

"You know Draco, there's nothing wrong with wanting to hold a kitten every now and then." I smiled, and leaned over the container, tucking my hair behind my ears.

"I was just looking, thought I might like one."

"Your father doesn't approve of pets. He called my dog a mutt once." Draco was quiet. The two of us had an odd relationship. Draco knows that his father is who I blame for mines death, and honestly, I don't think he blames me.

"Are you getting one?" He moves closer, leaning over my shoulder to look into the container with me.

"I think so. I've always liked cuddles and now that I'm moving to Hogwarts, I won't have my beautiful dog with me."

Draco stopped for a moment, "Isnt today your birthday?"

"Yes, it is." He looked at me quizzically, before straightening out his black cardigan, "I don't like to make a big fuss of my birthday." I smiled, picking up a small kitten. She was a silver color, with blue eyes.

"That's a russian blue cat," Draco said, "they're very affectionate." I turned to him in surprise, I wouldn't expect Draco to be into cats.

"They're very cute too." I smiled. He followed me over to the pet supplies section of the store, and picked up a bag of food for her, and explained to me why it was the best option for her, "Wow Draco, you're really into cats."

He looked at the bag as he spoke to me, "Well, I've always wanted one, and a boy can dream." He followed me to the counter to pay, but before I could, he slid a small bag of currency over to the teller, smiling at me, "It's your birthday."

"You know Draco, I don't remember you being this nice to me. In fact, I believe last time I saw you, you made a comment about—"

"Please, don't finish that sentence." He helped me carry my stuff out to Ethan. "Hello, Ethan."

Ethan, who got along wit he everyone, smiled, "Hello Draco! I see you helped my sister get a cat."

I smiled, showing Ethan the kitten. "It's a girl, I'm not sure what to name her yet. But she's a Russian cat, so I think a Russian name."

Draco smiled, looking at his feet, "What about Alina, Lina for short?"

"Wow Draco, that was quick," I looked at the small, grey ball of fur, "Yes, she looks like an Alina." I looked at Draco, "So, I heard we were sitting together on the Hogwarts train?"

He smiled, "Yeah, but I should get going now. See you then, Y/N."

We waved goodbye, and continued our shopping.

When we arrived home, mother was still in her study, so I went to my room and ordered on Amazon some cute cat supplies that would match my room decor. Meanwhile, Alina slept on my pillow.

I then packed my supplies into my trunk, smiling at what a wonderful packing job I had done.

I heard a gentle tapping on my window, and looked to see a silver owl tapping on my glass. It looked familiar, so I opened the window, and a small letter dropped in my hand, it had my name written on it, in delicate cursive letters.

"Dear Y/N", I read aloud, "I wanted to say I looked forward to sitting with you on the train, and apologize for the way I acted before. You know my father, I'm sure you know why I'd act in such a way. Please, when I make an arse of myself, don't hate me. I hope I see Alina again soon." I smiled at the letter, before realizing that I was smiling, and stopping myself. I looked at the owl, clearly waiting for a response, and sat down to write one.

"Hello Draco, it was nice seeing you again, when you were acting pleasant. And yes, I can imagine why you'd act in such a way, I just hope you see Hogwarts as an opportunity to grow without your father. I look forward to seeing you too."

I handed the paper to the owl, and fed him a small treat, he purred with excitement before flying off.
