When the day came to leave, I was prepared. My trunk was packed to perfection, my brief case and over the shoulder bags too. I was dressed in my black jeans, a white turtleneck, and my new enchanted amulet, given to me by my mother. It was a (F/C) stone, held in a golden chain. She said it would protect me.
My mother had Ethan load the car, and tie his quidditch gear to it. Ethan was a chaser, and the best on the Hufflepuff's team.
"Y/N, sweets, I packed you some pumpkin bread, for the trip. Feel free to share some with Draco."
"You know mom, we saw him on Diagon Alley without his father, he's not as much of an asshat as I remember him."
"Language, Y/N." She shook her head, but I smiled, "Dont forget to take your iPhone, contrary to popular belief, they have wifi their for the muggle world kids. The password is "QuidditchFan", capital Q and F." My mother used to teach classes at Hogwarts, I had no doubt in my kind that she was the one who convinced Dumbledore to instal it.
"Okay, Ill text you when I get there." I smiled.
She drove us to the train station, and Ethan offered to take my trunk, but no way could he carry his trunk, my trunk, and his quidditch stuff, so, I took it. I pulled the trunk, which was truly just a suitcase, and in the other hand, held Alina.
When we arrived at the 9 3/4 mark, we had to wait a moment to get in, because of the Weasley family. I knew them, mostly through Ethan being friends with the twins. But we eventually went through, and were greeted with the Malfoy family.
I loath the Malfoy family.
"Mrs. Priest, you've arrived." Lucius said, it just sounded disgusting hearing our family name ring through his mouth, he turned to me, "My, Y/N has grown into quite the lovely thing." I had to refrain myself form gagging.
After some quick conversation, I extracted myself, to put my luggage on board. I hadn't realized Draco was following me, until he offered some help.
"Oh, uh, yeah, that'd be great." I smiled, as he loaded my trunk.
"Louis Vuitton luggage? It looks like your mother's." He noted.
"They were her's, she handed them down to me when she got a new set." I smiled.
Draco nodded, and brought me back to our families, to say goodbye.
"I'm gonna miss you mama," I said, hugging her tightly.
"I'll miss you too, girlie girl. Take care of your brother for me." She kissed me on the head, "Text me when you get there and the milisecond you find out was house you're in."
"Hope it be Slytherin!" Lucius chimed in.
"No, Lucius, she's a Ravenclaw. Through and through." Ethan said, patting me on the shoulder. We all knew Lucius strongly disliked Ethan, solely for being a Hufflepuff, but no one really said anything.
After our goodbyes, I followed Draco to a train cart toward the back of the train, and we sat down across from one another. I placed Alina down on my lap.
"She's very cute." Draco smiled.
"She is, I'm happy to have her."
We sat quietly, until two boys knocked on our compartment door.
Draco clearly knew them, and got up to answer, "Crabbe, Goyle, what's up?"
"I thought we were sitting with you?"
"You thought wrong." Draco had arrogance in his tone, so I lightly kicked his leg, "Ow!" He said, looking at me, and rolling his eyes. He dismissed the two, and sat back down. "You didn't need to kick me."
"You were acting mean, if needed to be corrected."
He smiled and rolled his eyes at me. He looked down at my amulet, "What's that?"
"Oh, my mother gave it to me. She somehow enchanted it, it's a protection spell of some sort. I'm not quite sure."
"Wow, it's just so crazy that you're family is like, THE Priests and you're all so..."
"Humble?" I cut him off. He nodded, "It's because we know that all magic is magic, no matter where it comes from. We know we are equal to all other witches and wizards."
"That's not true, Y/N. You should take pride in your family. You're pure blooded witches and wizards."
I threw my book at him, "Cut that shit out Draco, you're too young to be such a prejudiced asshole. Did it ever occur to you that you may fall in love with someone who isn't pure blood? Or befriend someone who isn't pure blood? Or even see a celebrity that isn't? Blood status doesn't determine who you are."
He was quiet for a moment, "I'm sorry."
"Yeah, you feel like an asshole now, huh?"
He nodded, "I do." I was surprised to hear the genuine apology, but I take what I can get.
"If you stopped being an asshole, Draco, you wouldn't grow into your father."
He looked at me, and this time, his eyes were wet.
"Draco?" I said, getting up and moving to his side of the car. I sat down and wrapped my arm around his shoulder, "Draco, are you okay?"
He shook his head no, and rested himself on me, leaning his head on my shoulder. He was taller then me, so this was a tad awkward, but it was also nice. I rubbed his back with my other hand.
"Draco, I cant imagine that your father has been kind to you, so I'm so so sorry for that, but you're going to be away from him now."
"Y/N, I've been such an arse since I've been in Hogwarts, I'm just like him." We were entering our third year (first for me, but they allowed me to skip two on the account that I already know a lot).
"Draco, you can change. It's okay." He picked himself up off of me, and his face was red, and slightly puffy. I went to get up, but he grabbed my wrist, "Draco, I'm not leaving, I'm just getting you a tissue." That seemed to be enough for him, because he let me grab him one.
He cleaned himself up a bit, and other then the red eyes, you would never be able to tell he was crying at all. He looked at me, "I'm sorry, Y/N. I shouldn't have just... lost control."
"Hey... it's okay if you need to cry. I'm here to help you." I honestly did not see myself in this situation.
He looked over at me, and to be honest, he looked different. A good different.
"Now, Draco, when I get sorted into Ravenclaw, as we both know I will, see you just gonna not talk to me?" He quickly shook his head no, which made me smile, "See? That's improvement."
He just leaned back in his seat for a moment. "I can't believe you saw me cry." Draco said, eyes still closed.
"It's okay, I'm kinda a big baby so you'll see me cry a few times. But it's okay to cry if you need too." He looked at me, and held my hand for a minute.
"Thank you." He whispered. I reached over and hugged him, a natural response to this situation for me, but clearly foreign to him, because for a movement, he just stiffened.
"C'mon tough guy, just relax, and you may even like it." I said, still hugging him. He did so, and wrapped his arm around me, too. We sat like that for a few minutes, until Alina jumped up to Draco.
After a few moments, I took out a book and began reading, and Draco did the same. We read in silence for a majority of the way there.
After an hour or two, a woman with a candy kart came by. Draco smiled at me, "Can we get the assorted chocolates? I believe she likes dark chocolate." I smiled, he was right.
