My Son

(Hawks P.O.V)

I arrive back late in the evening to the Nighteye Memorial Agency to pick up Tutenaka who stayed with Mandalay while we all went on patrol.

I don't know how I'm going to tell him that we still haven't found any information on where Nekuro could be.

As I go up to the third floor, I can hear the kids playing. From what Mandalay told me, Kota and Eri have been keeping him distracted from everything going on.

When I get to the door, I can see our boy smile even though I know he's still holding back tears.

I feel my heart ache since, once I tell him that his mom is still missing, I know that the little dam he's built will break and he'll cry.

I can't help but to feel a little selfish for wanting just to hold him. Even though he's not fully mine, he's a part of my girl and he's so much like her.

While thinking to myself, I don't realize that he's noticed that I'm standing at the door and he comes out running.

"Dad", he says as he runs at me and hugs me, "Please tell me you were able to find something."

I get down on my knees and just hug him close.

He instinctively understands and holds on to me tightly. Just as I thought he would, he starts to cry.

I rub his back as I let tears fall out as well.

"What's gonna happen to me dad", he says still weeping, "Are they gonna take me away too?"

"No", I say pulling him out of the hug so he can look at me as I wipe his face, "Listen to me little one. Even if your mom isn't here, you'll still have me. You'll always have me by your side and I'm not letting anyone take you away from me."

He hugs me again letting out even more tears than before, "Thank you dad."

"C'mon little one", I say as I stand up carrying him, "Let's get you home."

"Wait", says Eri as both her and Kota come running.

I put Tutenaka down and they both hug him, "We're here for you too", says Eri.

"Yeah", says Kota, "Don't you dare leave us."

Tutenaka hugs them back and says, "I'll always be here for both of you too."

"C'mon kids", says Mandalay, "Tutenaka will be here to play with you all tomorrow."

"Thank you again Mandalay", I say.

"You're welcome", she says, "Now go home and rest up so you can continue the search tomorrow."

"Will do", I say.

"Bye everyone", says Tutenaka as he takes my hand and we walk to the elevator.

Once outside he asks, "Dad, can we fly home over the city?"

"Is there a reason you wanna fly", I ask him.

"You said you were always able to find mom when you were just flying around", he says, "I know we might not find her, but I still wanna try so it feels like I helped too."

I smile then say, "In that case, of course we can. Did you bring your gear?"

He quickly takes off his backpack and opens it. From inside, he takes out his goggles, a special set of headphones, and a jacket almost like mine, then puts them on. "I'm ready dad."

I pick him up and we take off over the city.

I fly slowly as he looks at every roof top to see if he can find her. I don't have the heart to tell him that she won't be up there.

-Mini time skip-

When we do get home, I carry Tutenaka to his room. It seems the little patrol we did tired him out and he fell asleep.

I take his goggles and head set off and lay him down in his bed. Hopefully he'll dream of something that'll make him happy.

Once I'm in my room, I undress and get into the shower. I can't help but to think of her while I'm in there.

Usually I'd try to convince her to shower with me. Sometimes it would work, other times it wouldn't. But, when it wouldn't, she'd still be in our room and kept me company just by talking and laughing together. Now it just feels so quiet.

When I get out of the shower, I throw on my usual t-shirt and shorts then get into bed. First time in months that I go to bed alone.

I start remembering how I'd always spread my wings out so she had no other choice than to lay in them, then I'd wrap them around her to bring her close. She always knew what I was doing, but she still laid in them anyway. Now my wings feel so empty without her.

I close my eyes and drift off to sleep as I think of her.

-Time skip: Late into the night-

I get waken up by an alarm going off, only that it's not the same one that I usually have on my phone.

I wake up and start coughing. I look around and realize that the room is full of smoke.

I run out of my room to see what's going on and spot him.

"My, my", he says, "What a nice place you have here. Perfect for two pro heroes. Too bad it'll be burned to the ground in a few minutes."

I fly down to him , "What the hell do you think you're doing here Dabi!"

"Well I heard you were still looking for her", he says, "I just came to tell you that she's no longer interested in you finding her and told me to return this", then, from his hand, he dangles Nekuro's necklace.

I snatch it from his hands, "You liar", I say, "She would never take this off."

"If you don't believe me then wait until you see her with the rest of the league", he says taunting me.

I fall for it and begin shooting feathers at him.

He doges then says, "You think fighting me in here is the best idea, or did you forget about your so called son?"

I look up and see Tutenaka with two pet carriers, coughing as he covers his mouth.

I fly up and grab him, then fly us all out the window.

Once outside, I set him down on the grass and say, "Stay here little one. I'm gonna go back and take care of the man who did this."

Before I do he grabs my hand and says, "Dad please don't. I don't care about the man, I just don't want to lose you too."

My anger subsides as I look into Tutenaka's eyes. His eyes look so much like hers and I realize that I have to stay here and protect him.

"Ok", I say as I hug him, "I'll stay right here with you."
