"So you're going to the opening of the club tonight?" You heard a couple rows from you.

You wanted to cringe at the thought you had to be there since it was your father's new club that was opening up. All a cover of course for his real job. The mob that he ran that practically ran the town.

You were trying to collect your things from your bag, trying to not think about having to go on another outing for your father. It was enough that you put your foot down on going to school which he hated the idea. So going to the gathering for the family was the compromise.

Even though you knew the second you got your degree you were going to go so far away from here. From them and their people that they knew. Hell even if you did, doesn't mean that they couldn't find you. You thought, as you slung your backpack over your shoulders and was out of the class before anyone else, so they couldn't ask you questions.

Everyone always asked you questions when they heard your last name. Everyone knew the connection. Knew that your father ran a mob that dealt in politics, territory, drugs, and opening up businesses like the club to launder the money through.

And you were quick after your first week to know how to avoid everyone and their questions. No eye contact ever, make no small talk. And don't let yourself linger after class go straight to the dorm.

There was the only time that you felt like you belonged. With your roommates. That knew who you were related to. But they soon warmed up to you, when they found out that you weren't using daddy's money to get through school. You wouldn't have if he insisted.

Once you said that you wanted to get a college degree,he cut you off from the family money, making it so you had to work at the university bookstore to help pay for everything that financial aid didn't help with.

Walking out of class hearing the murmurs behind you. You knew that some of your classmates would show up at the club opening. To see you, and see you with your family.

Always fun being the circus act, you thought, as you rolled your eyes at the thought, making you further dread tonight's opening.

Maybe I can make it quick. Show up, make my appearance with dad then leave and go back to the dorm. You thought, as you walked quickly across the campus and towards the dorm rooms.

--

"Ugh, you realize that anyone else would kill to go." your roommate complained as you checked yourself out in the mirror.

"Yes well, anyone else isn't me. Anyone else doesn't know how annoying it is. Constantly having to go to these things so they don't bother me." You said as you smoothed your dress out and clipped some flyaway hairs with a couple bobby pins.

"See, I could always come with. My skills at getting out of things and being a buffer could come in handy. Especially if you know the 'I have to study for an exam, have a test tomorrow' excuse doesn't work out."

"Yes because that wouldn't work and your skill at spontaneously making yourself sick will work." you replied as she rolled her eyes.

"Hey how did you think I got out of that quiz last week huh?"

"If you can get ready in five--" You said as your friend ran to her dresser and went through her clothes. Running into the bathroom as you laughed.

--

"Are you sure this is the entrance?" your friend asked as you noticed out of your peripheral vision that she kept trying to fix her dress. Pulling it down then pulling the top portion of to cover her breasts more. Which you were surprised about. All she kept talking about is how many drinks she was getting tonight thanks to the dress.

If we even stay that long that is. You thought, as you knocked on the door.

"This is the backdoor entrance. Don't want to attract too much attention. Plus this way we can get in. Make my appearance then we can leave and maybe actually go somewhere where I won't have bodyguards all over me for once." you sighed, as the door opened up and you both walked into the dark club that had music playing over the soundsystem already. And was packed with people. You bee-lined it for the bar, wanting to have a drink in your hand before you were saddled with listening to your father talk non-stop and giving you patronizing comments about your progress at university.

"Good idea, let's get a drink. I'm a little nervous actually." Your friend said as you heard her voice not behind you but almost like a couple people distance away, from having to walk through the crowd.

You squeezed your way through the crowd, trying not the breathe at the mixed smells of sweat, cologne and perfume that was around you, making you want to gag. Your hands slapped onto the bar top as you stood in front of it and smiled at your little triumph at working through the crowd unscathed.

"What will you have?" the bartender asked, as you looked at him.

"A couple shots of whiskey and 2 moscow mules." you said as he quickly set up a couple shot glasses and poured out the whiskey, as you took one shot glass and your friend took the other and you quickly downed it. Wincing at the burning sensation in your throat.

"Well that's a good way to start this isn't it?" your friend questioned as you laughed, as the mules were put in front of you two, as you turned towards your friend.

"I'm glad you came with me tonight." You said as you looked at her and she smiled, putting her hand on your shoulder and squeezing it.

"Me too. Better than staying at the dorm studying or binge-watching movies until i go to sleep. Let's go find a less crowded place to drink our drinks ok?" she said as she picked up her drink and you went to pick up yours and took a sip of it. The entire walk to where you saw it wasn't crowded, your eyes constantly scanning the room to see if any of your family was there.

They probably were in a different area. You already spotted multiple body guards that were standing at multiple exits. In case anyone got a little too handsy, which would get quickly disposed of out the back entrance that you are your friend entered through.

You sipped at your drink, feeling the nerves set in, as you took a couple more bigger sips, feeling your head start to hurt.

You stumbled against one of the walls as your friend looked at you with concern.

"Are you ok?" she asked you.

You squint your eyes trying to keep focus with her as there started to be dark edges in your vision. You blinked trying to clear it, as you leaned against the wall.

The last thing you saw before your eyes closed was the concern wipe from your friends face and two men come up from behind her and grab you.
