A basketball landed in my hands. Jerry was attempting to block me from shooting the ball.

I stepped back and got ready to make a swish. I aimed for the hoop--

"You know the girl who joined our class this year?"

I chucked the ball harder than I meant too. It airballed. I rolled my eyes. "You mean...the brown-haired girl?" It hurt even to say her name.

"You know her?"

I knew her all too well. Memories I didn't want to remember flooded my mind.

"Hello? Liam, you listening?" Jerry tapped me.

"What?"

"The new girl, Harmony? Do you think she-"

I hit him with a deadly glance, "Shut up and change the topic, dude."

"Fine." Jerry looked at me, confused. Then he went to chase after the ball that had rolled into the street.

I checked my watch, "It's getting late, I should better head home."

Jerry shot a 3-pointer, "OK, see you tomorrow."

I nodded to him, "See ya!" I began the walk home, dodging cars and jaywalking through some streets. I reached the next block.

That's when I saw her...

I took a different route home that night.
