Jerry's face was twisted. With pain, rage, and a million other emotions.
Most of all, sadness.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he choked.
"We're sorry," the doctor said.
Jerry didn't respond. I never thought I'd feel so bad.
Mindy had stayed over at the hospital with him last night. We told her, and the look on her face was heart-wrenching.
"I'll stay with you, I promise," Mindy swore.
Although Liam told me Jerry was supposed to have two more months, yesterday, the doctor found that Jerry only had a few days left at most.
It was a miracle he could still talk.
"You shouldn't have to," Jerry told her.
"I need to."
I could see both of their pain. Even if Jerry was going to live to see the next day, though, Mindy wouldn't be here for it.
Mindy was going home tonight.
"Mindy?" I begged.
"Yeah?" there were tears in her eyes and streaming down her face.
"Let's go for a walk. Get some fresh air."
Mindy sighed but reluctantly came with me.
There was nothing more we could do.
