"Today is the day."
I didn't answer. Something inside my stomach knotted.
"You know, I'm really thankful for such an amazing son. I still don't know how you managed to pretend to be friends with her. Any person would think you actually cared about her."
I did. But he didn't need to know that.
"Today is going to be the day I finally get my revenge."
I bit my lip.
"I think I know where she is. You know the plan, don't you?"
I knew it all too well. After I left Harmony, I had spent the rest of the night reading and rereading the plans, trying to find a loophole somewhere.
My father was no idiot.
Or maybe I was the idiot.
But I didn't see any loopholes anywhere.
I didn't know what I would do.
All I knew was that I was not going to let my dad get his hands-on Harmony. I was not going to let him kill her.
Whatever it took.
Even my life?
I was shocked when I realized the answer was not "no."
I didn't sleep last night, so I was sluggish.
My dad led me outside. We followed Harmony down her route to the park.
I felt my dad reach inside his coat to pull out a knife.
No. NO. NO!
In a moment of panic, I jumped in between them.
I'm not going to lose another person.
Not today.
"No! Harmony!"
