"Meet me at the lunch tables!" Jerry said as I went to grab my lunch. Since when do we meet up by the lunch tables? Normally we eat lunch near the blacktop.
I walked to my backpack. For lunch I had packed a sandwich and whatever snacks I could find in the house. Mom used to pack my lunch. She'd always pack something healthy along with plenty of sweet treats. Our fridge was always full. Mom did most of the buying when it came to food. My dad isn't very good when it comes to buying anything except liquor or alcohol.
I walked to the lunch tables.
Suddenly I felt sick.
Never in my life would I have thought I'd find my best friend hanging out with my worst enemy.
I don't know what was worse. Harmony's existence or the smile on Jerry's face- I mean Jerry doesn't look bad when he smiles but this kind of smile was different.
"Oh, hey Liam!" Jerry said, spotting me.
Harmony's smile evaporated.
"Hey Jerry," I said quickly, "I'm going to go play football with the other guys."
Jerry looked confused but said, "Okay..."
That was the first school lunch period I spent without my best friend.
