"Mindy, you need to go pack."
"I promised I wouldn't leave Jerry," she whispered.
"I'll... I'll pack for you."
She wrapped her arms around me then went back to her spot next to Jerry. I watched as she buried her face in his body, now slightly cold.
It had been thirty minutes since Jerry's death. We just got to the hospital to be met with the grim news.
Honestly, I hadn't been too close to Jerry. Sure, I liked him a little bit at first, but he was all Mindy's.
I sighed...
But it didn't matter.
He was gone.
Even the best doctors in the entire world wouldn't have been able to save him.
I told my foster parents what had happened.
They didn't say anything. They just hugged me then went to check on Mindy.
That night was grimmer than ever. I had grown a lot closer to Mindy in the past month, and she had become my best friend.
Losing her--would I ever see her again?
She left, still crying. I couldn't stop crying either.
Today was supposed to be a wonderful day.
I didn't even notice Liam coming up to stand next to me.
