It would be nice if the sun woke me up. It doesn't though... Instead, my dad woke me up.
Not like, "Time for school Liam!" That was what mom would do. But Dad? Just screaming. And the occasional shattering of bottles.
I got up and opened my laptop. I looked at my unfinished essay for English. Yes, I knew it was due today. Whatever, I'll finish it in time.
By the time it was done, it was 7:30. I got dressed, brushed my teeth, and grabbed my backpack. When I got downstairs, dad was asleep on the couch. The smell of alcohol filled the air. Today it made me too sick to eat any breakfast. Smashing my lunch into my bag, I walked out the door.
Jerry's dad, Mr. Henrick, was waiting outside. I opened the car door and slid in next to Jerry.
Mr. Henrick asked, "How are you, Liam?"
I shrugged, "Good."
Mr. Henrick asked me that every morning. Good was the only answer I ever gave him. He knew my mom died but that was it. He didn't know about my dad. Which was good. He doesn't need to know about my insane father.
The car ride was quiet. No one felt like talking, which was fine by me.
"Here we are! Have a great day you two!" Jerry's dad parked the car.
I dragged myself out from the warmth of the car heater.
"Ugg it's like 0 degrees out here," Jerry groaned.
I nodded, "Next time I suggest you bring a coat—"
Her again.
She was walking towards the classroom.
"Liam? Dude, we're going to be late!" Jerry said.
I began walking the other way, thinking of a good excuse, "Yeah—I—I'm thirsty, I'm going to go get a drink of water." Anything to avoid getting near her.
Jerry nodded, "Whatever. I'll see you at math."
"Yeah..."
"Oh, look it's Harmony—"
"I'll see you at math!" I ran in the opposite direction, almost slamming into a tree.
I reached the water fountain, actually thirsty from running. As the water flooded into my mouth, I realized something.
Jerry NEVER points out girls who are walking by...
I coughed, the water splattering everywhere.
It's impossible...
PLEASE, ANYONE BUT HARMONY!!!
