Kevin leaned against the wall next to a bulletin board, pretending to be on his phone.

He glanced up every time a person walked by. The amount of seniors in the area gave him hope, at least, that a certain person would be there.

The nervous fidgeting was the only visible sign that something was up with him. And hopefully, if one wasn't looking too hard, they wouldn't even notice.

What was likely an art class had just gotten released, and thus a stream of students came crowding up the hallway, all chatting with a friend or in search of their locker.

Kevin's gaze was immediately drawn to a blond boy who held a sketchpad, laughing at something a short girl next to him was saying.

Instantly his revolve faltered. Going up to Jacob alone was hard enough, but with a friend?

Kevin's thoughts were interrupted as the elder glanced to his right, his gaze landing directly on Kevin by chance.

Jacob seemed to pause upon making eye contact, distracted from his conversation for a moment.
Kevin could only hope that his body language told the elder he wanted him to come over.

Jacob turned to say something to the girl he was walking with, who nodded and continued down the hall.

Kevin already felt every ounce of confidence leaving his body as Jacob jogged over to him, weaving in between a couple of students to get there.

"What are you doing here?" Jacob said, a cheerful look on his face as he came to a stop in front of Kevin.

"I..." Kevin trailed off, finding it awkward to outright state what he wanted.

"I was gonna ask you if... we could, uh... do something like yesterday?" Kevin tried to speak calmly, yet found it increasingly hard to keep his train of thoughts steady under Jacob's gaze.

Jacob gave him a sweet smile. "Come meet me here at lunch, yeah?" he said. "If you're free."

Kevin eagerly nodded, unknowingly mirroring Jacob's expression.

"Bring your food with you," Jacob said, turning to leave. "Just in case it takes a while."

Kevin gave him two thumbs up, at which Jacob grinned. He reached up and lightly ruffled Kevin's hair, just before stepping away into the crowd of students.

Kevin watched him wander off down the hall, a happy bounce to his step that was sort of endearing.

All Kevin had to do now was make it until lunch.

He was bored to death.
His second period class couldn't have been less interesting to him if it tried.

Maybe if he wasn't busy tapping his pen and glancing at the clock every few seconds, he could've actually gotten some work done.
Yet this wasn't Kevin's priority, and he knew it.

The release of that period felt akin to being released from prison. He'd never packed up and evacuated a classroom so fast in his life.

Kevin practically ran to his locker, grabbing the lunch he'd brought, and was already set out for his final destination.

He didn't know when, but the nervousness he'd felt had begun to be slowly replaced by excitement.
