It had been six days since he'd talked to Jacob Bae.
On this lovely Monday morning, Kevin sat in his second period class, bored out of his mind.
The past week had been rather boring, adjusting to his new school life and new house."Kevin, I'm gonna take a nap. Could you wake me up when class ends?" the girl next to him nudged him, a pleading look in her eye.
"That's risky, Yuqi," he replied, the pretty girl giving him a pout in reply.
"Okay, fine. Good luck," he gave in, Yuqi fist pumping the air in happiness before settling down, resting her head on the desk.
Kevin subtly glanced at her after a minute or two. Her eyes were closed, a serene expression on her face as she breathed peacefully.
A dainty pink eyeshadow accented her eyes perfectly, alongside mascara of course.God, how pretty she looked. Kevin stared at her for a moment not knowing how to identify the strange emotions he felt upon looking at her.
She had a beautiful face, and the prettiest pair of dark eyes that disappeared when she smiled. Her lovely pink lips that would curl into a grin laid waiting now, knowing she was asleep.
These thoughts overwhelmed Kevin for a moment. Why was he noticing all of this? Did he... like her? No, no, that didn't seem right.
A sinking feeling grew in Kevin's chest. He knew exactly what to call this.
It was envy.
Envy, that he couldn't look like her. Envy that she was born so beautiful as to leave him in awe of nature's miracle.
Kevin looked away from her. He couldn't bear to deal with these thoughts anymore... all they did was torture and nag him.
Class ended within fifteen minutes. It was both a blessing and a curse, as he was now free but also burdened with the decision of where to go for lunch.
He shook Yuqi awake, the girl stretching and yawning as she blinked to adjust to the light.
"Thanks man," she said, leaning back in her chair while other students stood and began to chatter loudly.
"No problem," Kevin responded. "But hey, um, Yuqi," he tried for her attention.
"Yeah?"
"Did Jacob do your makeup today? It's pretty," he said, not knowing where his confidence was coming from.
The girl beamed with joy. "Thank you! He did it this morning," she replied, quite satisfied at the compliment.
"Do you know where I could find him... right now?" he asked more timidly, seeing her expression flicker with unsureness.
"No. I can text him and ask?" she offered, taking out her phone and already beginning to type.
"Oh, no, Yuqi it's okay..." Kevin began to protest, fearing the embarrassment. "You don't have to do this."
"He says to meet him in the art room," Yuqi replied way too quickly, reading off of her phone screen.
Kevin stood silently for a moment.
"...Did you tell him it was me asking?""Yeah? Why?" Yuqi said, her expression completely oblivious as to his concerns.
"Ah, shit..." Kevin swore under his breath, feeling the regret set in already. "Never mind, it's okay. He said... art room?"
She nodded, standing up and gathering her things. Kevin awkwardly thanked her as he did the same.
He left the classroom with his thoughts clouded, his body on autopilot as he headed towards the art room.
