Kevin swung his feet back and forth as he sat on the art room's countertop.

He'd gotten to the area a minute or so prior, and upon finding it empty, decided to make things more convenient.
Thus he hopped up on the counter and pulled out a snack from his bag, playing a game on his phone as he waited for the other to arrive.

The door swung open, and Kevin immediately set down his phone and turned to greet the other person.

Yet he shut his mouth as he saw a girl he didn't recognize walk in, an exasperated look on her face.

She took in the view of Kevin sitting on the counter and paused in her footsteps.
"Oh, are you using this room today?" she called over to him.

Kevin didn't know exactly how to answer that. "I guess?" he responded. He technically was using it, but didn't want to inconvenience the girl when he could easily change places.

"I'll just be a couple minutes then, sorry. I need to finish up a project really quick," the girl apologized, scurrying across the room to a large cabinet.

Kevin let out a breath as he picked his phone back up, continuing where he left off in some flappy bird knockoff app.

It didn't take long for Jacob to show up.
The boy waltzed through the door a couple minutes later, bearing an apology.

"Oh, Kevin, you're still here, good!" Jacob said as he strode over to the boy, dumping his bag on the counter.
"Sorry honey, I had to go grab my jacket from my locker just now."

Kevin shook his head at this. "It's fine, I've only been here like five minutes," he said, a tiny smile painted on his face as soon as the other had come up to him.

"I have a surprise for you, by the way. Dunno if you'll like it," Jacob said casually, making Kevin raise an eyebrow.

"Am I allowed to ask what it is?"

"No," Jacob responded, grinning. "You'll find out."

Kevin watched as Jacob went through the usual routine of getting out his brushes and makeup bottles.
Maybe, if Kevin watched him do it enough times, he would be able to copy the process one day.

Jacob got out a scrunchie, putting Kevin's hair into a top ponytail. He knew he probably looked dumb with it, but for some reason he didn't seem to care much.

"So, I got some new lip tint and eyeliner. This'll be interesting," Jacob said halfway to himself as he stood in front of Kevin to work.

"Take your time, I don't have to be anywhere," Kevin reassured as he closed his eyes, knowing he would soon be asked to.

The ever-familiar feeling of a brush against his face worked Kevin into a sort of trance. He let his thoughts drift as he relaxed, letting the other work in peace.

"Kevin?" Jacob whispered after a while. No response came from the younger boy.

"Hey, Kev?" he said, lightly poking Kevin on the nose.

"Hm?" Kevin hummed, pulled away from his thoughts.

"You sleepy?" Jacob asked gently as Kevin opened his eyes to look at the other.

Kevin thought for a moment. Maybe he did feel a little tired after all.
He gave a tiny nod at the question.

Jacob stepped away, setting his bag aside before hopping up to sit next to Kevin on the counter.

"We can stop for a while," Jacob said, making himself comfortable sitting that way.

Kevin looked over at him. "Oh, we don't have to because of me, I'm fine..." he began, yet paused as he caught Jacob's gaze.
The elder looked at him expectantly, confusing Kevin.
