When she woke up, her hand was clutched right next to Fitz's.

Their wrists were touching and she smiled. She wanted to connect their hands but she knew it would startle him and that would be hard to explain.

"I wouldn't do that," she heard someone say.

She closed her eyes and giggled.

Skye.

"I wasn't going to."

Skye gave her the ' I'm not stupid ' look and opened her mouth to speak.

"We need to talk."

Simmons nodded and stood up, they both exited the room.

They approached the waiting room and stood across from eachother.

"I'm sorry, Simmons. I'm so sorry. You don't deserve any of this."

Tears were welling up in Simmons eyes but she stopped them.

"It's fine, Skye."

"No, it's not Jemma. Ever since it happened you've grieved twice. You flipped out on 'hail hydra' down there and then with Coulson."

How did she know these things? God, nothing is kept private on this plane/base.

"I..I've cried enough."

"Simmons, you wanna talk about what you were supposed to say when he woke up? And why you didn't?"

Of course, she had a perfect reason not to tell him.

"He doesn't remember me."

Skye took this into consideration.

"Okay, true. But still. You are the only one who can help him."

Simmons didn't think this.

"How? If he can't even remember, then how do I make him?!"

She yelled.

"Time."

They heard someone say.

"Time is the key to his remembrance. It is only short term memory loss. Be patient, get him through it. Prove to him that you are the one who is always there for him. Be by his side everyday."

It was Doctor Hicks.

Jemma nodded, "O-okay."

And with that, she went back to Fitz's room to wait for his awakening.

~.~

Fitz's eyes fluttered opened and Jemma's melted when she saw his blue eyes.

Stay strong, Jemma. You're the only one who can help him.

"Goodmorning, Fitz."

He smiled and sat up a little taller.

"Hey, Jemma. What are you doing here?"

Poor Fitz. If only he remembered.

"Well, before you forgot I made a promise to save your life and protect you, so here I am."

A smile grew on his lips and she smiled, as well.

"How are you feeling?"

"Not too bad. A little tired but I think I'm better with you here."

A pickup line? At a time like this?

Fitz always had the worst timing.

"Well, that's very sweet, Fitz."

She couldn't keep her eyes off of him, he was gorgeous.

"So, Fitz. Remember anything?"

Such a blunt question, should've had consideration.

"No, but uhm, you look more and more familiar everyday."

This put a smile on her face.

Nothing makes her happier than that.

And I don't think anything ever will.
