Take Me There

Chapter 36

I find 6 boxes of 50 diapers and I pile them into the cart. I grab a few blue binkies, along with some baby bottles. I grab Judith some pink booties and a purple stuffed giraffe. I go to the toy section. I see a gray stuffed elephant and I smile. I put it into the cart. I get some playing blocks and a foam mat for Judith and the baby. I walk over to the baby me medicines. I grab all that we could need and need, putting it in the cart. I walk over to Carl. "Hey baby." I say to him.

He turns around. "Hey." He says. "Get a lot?" He asks.

"Yeah, quite a bit." I say. "Clothes, a few toys, medicine, lots of diapers and more." I say. "You?"

"Lots and I mean lots, of formula." He says. "Clothes, socks, a few baby hats, and more." He says, kissing my cheek.

"I got some clothes for Judith too." He says.

"Okay. Good, so did I." I say, smiling. "I'm done, are you?"

"Yeah." He says.

"Okay." I say and we wheel the carts out of the store.

We finish putting food, ammo and a few machine guns, and pistols inside of the cart. We go outside of the store. "Carl, my feet are starting to hurt." I tell him.

He looks at his watch. "Well, it's 5:29 right now. We should head back anyways." He tells me. "I'll rub your feet tonight for you." He tells me smiling.

I smile. "If you want to." I tell him.
I feel like someone is watching us for some reason.

We go inside. "We got a lot of stuff." I tell Rick. Could we put some of the baby stuff in the truck?" I ask him.

"Of course." He tells me and hands me the key. Carl and I walk out and load everything into the truck except Judith's clothes and some formula, the ammo, food, weapons and clothes for the group. We put the carts beside the church. We walk back inside with everything. We tell them what we got and they started sorting out and putting away. I go to the back room, Carl following.

I undress, leaving my flannel, underwear and socks on. I put my sweats on, Carl watching. I lay down, it now being 7:00.

"What're you doing?" He asks me.

"I'm going to sleep. I'm really tired." I tell him. He lays beside me.

"Okay." He says, wrapping his arms around me. "I love you. Goodnight." He says and smiles, kissing me long and good. I kiss him back.

"I love you too." I say, smiling. I quickly fall asleep, Carl a few minutes after me.

Carl comes and shakes me away. "What?" I ask.

"Taylor, get up now! Hurry up and get your shoes on!" He tells me.

I sit up, quickly putting my shoes on. I can see fear in his eyes. "What's wrong? What's happening?" I ask, standing up.

"About 20 men are here. They are trying to take the church. He wants up out now or he will kill us all." He says, shoving things into a bag. Beth and Abraham are loading things into a car just in case right now. Get all of your stuff and my stuff and put it into the back of the truck. Go out the side door. Please ignore them. Don't make eye contact and don't speak to them. Just slip out. Then grab as much food as you can. Please, please, please, grab Judith." He says, pointing to her on the ground in her carrier.

I nod. "Okay, okay. I will. I promise." I tell him, starting to pack things up.

"My dad wants me to help kill them if they try anything." He tells me.

I stop and close my eyes, sighing. "Okay." I say. I turn around to him. I kiss him. "I love you Carl. Please be careful." I say to him. He kiss back. I leave and load everything into the truck. I go inside and grab Judith. I walk back and guns starts to go off. I put her in the truck, quickly. I grab a machine gun.

"What are you doing?!" Beth questions, yelling.

"Helping." I yell. "Stay here, don't let anyone take anything." I tell her, handing her a gun. "Shoot anyone of these assholes." I say, running inside. I could here her yelling no in the background.

I start to shoot, hitting a man. Carl runs to me. He takes me and himself to cover, in the back room.
"You and Beth sneak the truck to the main road. Drive straight, a mile down. The opposite way from that mall." He yells. "There are 2 vans and a broken down tree there in a ditch. Wait there for us." He tells me.

"No! I'm not leaving you!!" I yell to him.

"You have to!" He yells, giving me a kiss, lightly touching my belly. "The rest of us will meet you there! These are my dads orders! You have to!" He tells me. "I'll cover you!! Go!!" He says, leaving the room, starting to shoot. I run behind him, running to the truck. Walkers are coming from the woods. Lots of them. "Get in the truck!!" I yell to Beth. "I'll explain later!" I yell again. Luckily I can drive, a little bit. I get in the truck and start it. Beth gets in the truck. She checks Judith. She's fine. I start to drive away. I see Carol go down. Tears fill my eyes. Before we can't see anymore, I see Carl go down.
