Serenity's POV

"Hey Ren how's the new girl looking?" Coach Vine asked.

"Pretty good actually. I think she could hit us a few home runs. She's fast too." I replied looking over at our new transplant.

Emily Carter. She just transferred here last week, bless her heart, why in the world her folks moved her here is beyond me, we've had quite a few people move into the area over the past month. It's odd to me as the only people who live around here are the ones who were born here and most of us are trying to get the hell out of here as soon as we can.

Even though the season is basically over, we've only got 3 games left in our softball season, she's a sophomore so if she learns how we play now, she'll be better equipped for how we do things for next year, even though this is my last year, as I'm a senior, I still want my team to win next year. We may not be big enough to have a football team, but we've got baseball, softball, basketball and cheerleading. Almost everyone here does some kind of sport so we can keep the sports we do have.

We live in a small southern community nestled near the Appalachian Mountains, all we have is a gas station that has some groceries and a deli counter. We finally got our own bank and health clinic about 8 years ago. I was 10 at the time, but I still remember it being a big deal. We have maybe 1,200 people in our town. Our school is a k-12 school and we've got 250 students over all, so it was a big deal when 45 students ranging in ages from 7 to 17 joined our school.
