Apollonia couldn't believe that she was back in the Upper Eastside since she graduated colleage, after graduation her and her best friend Bea had moved out of the country to live in Paris for a little bit before moving on to the next destination for the next two years, she knew that she was running away from a lot of things by leaving the country.

"You alright girl?" Bea asked as her as they made it to the condo that she grew up in.

"Yeah just a little weird being back here is all."  Apollonia said as she unlocked the door and let them inside.

Apollonia made her way over to the kitchen where she saw that her mother had left her a note on the fridge reminding them about tomorrow nights gala which was the whole reason that they were here. Apollonia's mother was recieving some honor for her charity work, and since her mother was stuck in Tokyo on business, and her brother was well whatever he is, that only left Apollonia to attend on her mother's behalf.

"Do you think he's gonna be there tomorrow night?" Bea asked knowing that since this was a chairty event, then there would be a chance that Apollonia would half to face her ex fiance who she hasn't seen in almost five years.

"I doubt it and even if he does show up, I literally got to make an apperance and wait to accept this award and then we can blow out of there." Apollonia said making her friend laugh at the grinch references.

Apollonia knew that eventually one day she would have to face her ex fiance, who broke up with her the night before their wedding and that these past five years have just been pure luck of not running into him or hearing about him. She still thinks about the first time they met and how he would change her world forever.

(FLASHBACK)

Apollonia made her way outsidoe through one of the side doors where the press or anyone would see her and kicked her shoes off before taking a seat on the stairs. She hated that she was made to come to these stupid galas with all these old people who were stuck in their ways, she may still be in high school but she knew things needed to change in the world around her. She reached in her purse and grabbed her emergency cigratte needing something to help relax her and get her through the rest of the night.

"What's a beautiful girl like you doing on here in the cold all by herself?" A smooth voice asks taking a step in front of her.

"Avoiding being in that gala as much as possible. What about you? Shouldn't DC's most eligible bachlor be inside instead of out here?" She asks earning a small smile from him.

"Probably so, but I was curious as to where you keep disappearing during these events, because for the past four/five events I have watched you disappear and not return until hours later, so tonight I decided to follow you." He says earning a small chuckle from her.

"That not creppy at all but as you can see I'm just another spoiled brat who hates these events, nothing exciting." She says gesturing to the outside world around her.

"I don't think your a spoiled brat, even i can't stand these events sometimes, so I understand where your coming from." He says taking a seat next to her.

So for the next few hours the two of them sat on those steps discussing nearly everything under the moon and it made Apollonia realize that maybe Duncan wasn't as bad as everyone made him out to be. A disappointed sigh left her lips when she was that her mother was paging her to come back inside.

"I guess that's my que." She said stomping her cigrattee out as she put her phone back on her bag.

"I had a really great time talking to you Apollonia, is there anyway we could do this again?"  He asks shocking you that he wasn't trying to hookup with you.

"I would love that." You said typing your number into his phone before bidding him farewell and heading back inside.

(END OF FLASHBACK)

Apollonia dried her eyes before heading upstairs to get some rest in preparation of tomorrow night, she was going to need everything to get through this gala.

Duncan was talking with a few family friends when he saw her enter the room where the most beautiful jumpsuit that popped against her skin. His Apollonia had only gotten beautfiuler over the five years since he last saw her and he regretted doing what he did to her. He knew this was his chance to fix things between them because he had missed her so much and hadn't been able to hold a serious relationship or be anyone because she was all he thought about.

About an hour later everyone was seated at their table so the awards could be given out, and Apollonia was ready to ditch this boring place, she was reminded why she left the Upper East Side in the first place.

"Now accpeting the Humairiantain award for chairity of year on behalf of her mother, Apollonia Van Der Bilt." The announcer said as Apollonia made her way up the stairs to accept this award.

Apollonia began reading off the speech her mother prepared for her when her eyes connected with those icy blue ones that haunted her for so long. She couldn't believe that he was actually here, staring back at her. She quickly finsihed the speech and made way off stage and was prepared to make a run for it if she needed to.

Duncan watched as Apollonia pratically ran to her seat, and grabbed her things whispering something to Bea before disappearing in the crowd. He got up and decided to follow her, he wasn't going to wait another five years to talk to her.
